96 yz250 whats the word

Hi guys and gals, this is my first post.

I am seriously considering buying this model but would appreciate some of your opinions. The bike is in good codition for its age and runs realy well. I know its a pretty good deal but i just wanted to know if there was any known problems with this particular model ? Do they compare to later models reliability,power and handeling wize?

If you have owned or know someone who has, i would appreciate you opinions.

the engine changed a lot in 99. this (94-98) was the one that was so well liked with the 94 barrel. Not a totally bolt on change for yours (there is some case grinding),,,with a long rod it would probably cost as much as you are paying for the bike,,more even. but as it was stock it wasnt bad at all. handling was pretty good,,first year for the 46mm forks if i recall. that was back before yamaha went with the same bore and stroke as the honda. if it is clean and priced right and you like the 250's it would serve you pretty well. As with the other like sized cased yamaha's it will take a wide ratio transmission if you are so inclined.

I did hear that it would take a WR box 94-98 thats way cool. Its only got the 5 speed and its faily short so that may be a good option.. I have a friend who has been repairing yamies for 20 years and he said they had the best motors but had pretty bad trans!And on another website i saw a report that the yz250 96 motor was a dog! From what i can gather thay are good bikes and this one goes like a rocket so i think Blatman will buy tomorow,lol.
