hi guys

i recently brought a yz250 96
does anyone now how to adjust the exahaust valve as im using the bike in the woods and i need to calm it down a bit im trying to get a bit more torque.

Which year RM 250? Curiously - what was your technique for adjusting the power valve? Spring tension change?

I am not aware of a way to adjust them...I know you can buy different tension springs for the arm that comes up out of the case, but only from different year bikes....and I can't remember what years do what....been to long.

Try going up a tooth or 2 on your rear sprocket, or install a shorty type silencer, those work GREAT for more power down low.

As far as I know, changing the spring is the only way to alter the actuation of the valve.

Have you thought about adding a flywheel weight?

You could also de-tune it a bit by using a thicker base gasket, or use two stock base gaskets.

hey sean the bike was 88rm250 so u could adjust the valve from the
side of the head from cold 1 half a turn ani clockwise the power band would kick all the time and then a small turn at a time clockwise until u find the balance of power!!!!!

Well if you took teeth off the rear sprocket you actually just spread the gears out more making each gear longer. I was thinking you wanted more power on the low end, in that case I would look into flywheel weights for sure, that will tame the hit down even more.

Look at Dr. D's site for info on them.

I owned a 96 YZ 250 for more than a decade. Great Bike. I put an 11 oz Steahly flywheel weight on it for woods riding. Best mod I made on that bike. I left both sprockets stock. The flywheel weight is super easy to install, and the ones from Steahly come with instructions, and their customer service is excellent. I would highly recommend this mod for woods.
