Default 2006 YZ 125 to 144

Well I called Eric Gorr today and requested a engine crate so I could send in my '06 YZ 125 engine to have it bored out to a YZ 144. So hopefully by the end of this month or so when I get it back i'll be able to post on what it is like Looks like that hurricane plastic/graphics kit is gonna have to wait alittle while longer.

For sure let us know how you like it.

It will definetly be putting out some serious HP (for a 125).

awesome! I have heard nothing but postive things about the 144 kits EC does. That combined with the suspension and light weight of the 2006 YZ will make an incredibly fun bike!

I'm physced I hope I get the engine crate in the mail soon so I can get it sent off but when i'm done messing with my bike it's gonna be an '06 YZ 144 hurricane! I know it's gonna be sick for a 125 it's all ready mad fast! I hear when it comes back it should be putting down around 38 HP to the rear wheel!! Stock it's like a good 33 hp to rear wheel right now and having owned an '03 YZ250F i'll be able to see how it compares to a 250F in terms of power and how it compares in power compared to my friends old '01 YZ250F that was big bored to a stroker racing 280. This is gonna be sweet.

Oh yea I know all bout the goodness of the 144's being a 125 specialist myself, plus i've been a mbr on DRN since '00. I'm just finally going to get it done myself for a change. I figured hmm bout $500 ish for a big bore 144 with porting or about $350 ish for a pipe/silencer combo traditionally I've done the pipe/silencer/reed block deal but this time I thought it be worth while to try something different.

Part of what is fueling this is well my friend not long ago got an '06 CR 125 and bragged about making it a big bore well I'm going to get my done inspite ya know have to one up him again. First I got a new bike then he did, he got a pipe/silencer I haven't.. you see where I'm going

The V-3 and the Factory Fatty/shorty add up to a solid 2hp gain. I was very suprised on the reed, usually OEM is hard to beat but the V-3 really improved the 144.

I highly recomend VP C-12 for the fueling and a timing advance.

Welcome to ATM Steve!

Just wondering, would a gain in HP be felt when a VF2, Fatty, Ti2 (shorty) being used on a 00 YZ125? THanks

I'll get a V3 eventually but I wanted to do the 144 right away oh ya and it's cause of you steve125 after hearing how ya liked your 144 '05 on DRN I was like sweet thats what i'm gonna this time! I don't know if I can get VP that easy it's alot easier for me to get Trick 110 (trick blue) lately i've been running trick 101 unleaded the DOT legal stuff. But it only burns at like 96 octance I don't think it will be enough for the 144 modified for race gas.
Plus once wiseco starts offering the 58 mm kits to the public in jan it's gonna make getting the top end parts easier.

The trick 110 should be OK, but I have not used it. I heard about the new 144 pistons from Wiseco, but from what I understand they wont be as light as Erics.

The 00 YZ 125 is one of my all time favorite motors. Ive dynoed all the YZ 125's through to 05. The std reed is real good in all of them except 05/06. The V-3 in the 00 will not change peak power by much, but throttle response will be improved. The fatty and shorty will gain 1 to 1.5 at peak and give the engine a crisper overall feel.

I think a place in my town might carry VP I've heard people claim they've got U4 from the place. For some reason VP seems hard to come by here in WA I can get R tech from just about any dealer around here. What about the jetting of the bike I haven't done much to it.

It didn't feel that far off from stock I dropped the pilot one to a 37.5 stock is 40 and I moved the needle to the 2nd clip pos but I haven't touched the air screw/float nor main sorry the bike just runs so good right now but I think t he float might be off alittle cause I get some over flow out of the tubes when I put it on/off the stand but I'll fix that while the bike is apart. Oh yea and I installed that ngk R6918B-9 racing plugs I had from my KX the 144 will get the new spare I have maybe some BR9EIX's for dailing in the jetting at first.

What about the gearing can I drop a tooth in the rear or should I go up one in the front? I haven't gotten anything after market yet to upgrade the stock trash at least it's lasted longer than honda's taffy chain.

I run the std gearing and it works great, but you may try 1 smaller in the rear if you feel the need, but that would be it. Dont go up in the front that would be way to much.

The stock jetting is real close, in the summer drop the main down a few sizes and work with the needle position, but thats it. I would'nt go leaner than 2nd clip as 3rd is close to ideal on the 06, 4th on the 05.

The VP U-4 wont have enough octane, you probably already know that. Even the U-2 wasnt enough for mine. It runs perfect on C-12 or MR-8.

Sweet I was just going to try it as is the bike lives on 927 at 40:1 I was going to try this new premix dumonde tech has out that is fully synthetic but it's all ready mixed with that trick 101. Good to know that stock gearing is fine at 13/48 I was almost gonna goto 13/49 but it pulls fine out of corners long as I don't flub it What about clutch baskets I'm not a massive clutch abuser but the stocker has gotta give in to the added HP. Damn I'm gonna have to find a wiseco basket now

Thanks for that

The biggest I've felt was from silencer. I haven't ridden the bike with the Reeds yet, I am mainly hoping for crisper throttle response.

You might not be able to answer this question off the top of your head, but when dyno'ed, what sorta HP is the stock 2000 YZ125 putting out?
Thanks for your help champ!

It would be safe to say right around 33HP.
