The engine is basicaly unchanged for 05. Some minor adjustments. The real story is in the frame, swing arm, and the forks. All these parts are comepletely new. Of course they'll all be great so I wouldnt' worry.

The new forks should be the best thing about it. The new frame is ok but after looking at it in person, I have to say that Im not all that impressed. Its definately nowhere near as sweet looking as my Honda frame (to me), but at least they are giving it a shot. The bike also comes stock with a Renthal bar, which is a huge plus. The motor hasnt really changed like what was already said so all in all it should still be a great choice if you want to try out the 1st gen aluminum frame.

that 'sweet' honda frame makes it a real PITA to work on the bike

Which is one of the main reasons that Yamaha has a different design. If you read the september issue of MXA magazine you'll understand that Yamaha has had decades of experience with aluminum frames and was very definite with their intentions for the new frame. Honda may have more production gleam than the Yamaha but I would bet that anyone would rather change jets on a Yamaha than a Honda. Just my .02

Who cares what the frame looks like?? The question is .."Does it work and is it light and durable?". The answer thus far is YES. It also makes the YZ the lightest 250 made!

Also I would not put much hype into the Renthals...that is just marketing 101 to keep pace with BIG RED. Most if not all riders will replace the bars anyway with the brand and bend of their choice.

Boy, Satch0922 is on a tear today! "Engine Ice prices, who cares about the frame, Renthal Hype".

When I said looks, Im speaking not only in visual terms but also in finished quality terms. As for the Renthals, Yamaha bars (along with any stock steel bar) are well known to be complete junk and it is a welcome change to see a descent bar come stock, whatever the bend. There are lots of people that never change the bar until it bends (me not being one of them but there are still a huge number Im sure). Whatever dude, I really wasnt trying to diss the bike cause Im pretty sure its gonna be a serious contender regardless of my opinion of the thing.:

To be completly honest with you, if I were going to buy a new bike in '05 (Which is still up in the air...) I would have a hard time not buying the 250, just for the fact of it being so new and light.

Now I am wondering when the aluminum frame will get to the thumpers...my guess is '06.

Andrew...that is funny . Guess in my old age it gets more difficult to read people's "opinion" about bikes they have never ridden, about products they have never used etc etc.

Roostman...no offense man...my apologies. I wasn't dissin you......but don't "dude" me ! LOL

Renthal bars...JUNK. Believe me I have bent more than one set of Renthals trying to make my bike look like Bubba's or Ricky's...never again.

BTW...my Engine Ice tyraid was last week....this is a new week of being on a tear!

Motoman.....I refuse to ride one of the new 250s because I know I would get sucked in!!!!! Watched one of the local hotshots this weekend on a 2004 YZ250 and thought.."I need that bike"! I can't even imagine the 2005 ...it would feel like flicking a 125 around !

Yep, if there is one thing I miss about 2 strokes it's the flickability. They feel so light, and this bike we are talking about is the lightest of them all!!

The word floating around here is the YZ-F's will be aluminum framed for 06.

Glad you took my post the humorous way it was meant Satch

I rode my buddies 04 YZ250F a couple of weeks back and must admit I fell in love with its lightweight and maneuverability compared to my 03 CFR450. So much so in fact that I reckon a YZ250F could be my next bike in 06 - yep, with that new frame hopefully. (Subject to seeing what the others come up with, naturally!

Cheers

My guess is that the four strokes will be redesigned next year and will have the aluminum frame. Doesn't make a lot of sense for Yamaha to develop the frame for one engine then have to redevelop it for the entire new engine the yzf's are sure to get before too long.

They look very nice , I'm gonna wait to next year and get the next generation. Just like all the mistakes to come out first. Also the 4 strokes with ally frames should be down around 98/99 Kgs
Thats about where my 03 250 is at. Hmm. Now that would be competition for the CRF. (also a nice bike
So many good bikes to choose from!
These are lucky times!

Wow, i don't know about you guys, but the constant increase in price of the thumpers, and the (what would appear) drop in 2 smokes, I would seriously consider a pinger for my next bike.

The yamaha has a great motor too (the '00 I rode was sweet), and with the lack of weight, man... it's seriously tempting.

We'll see what '06 brings and make a move then.

I think bike will be great, Yamaha has a great 250 motor and now with it being lighter and improved suspention the bike will be even better, I had an 2001, and have an 05 on the way. But nowadays it's just pick your favorite color and go ride.
