Question 2003 YZ250 Front Number Plate.

Ok guys, Im new here and here goes my first stupid question. The front number plate on my bike is blue plastic with a white sticker for the background. This is how it came factory. If I wanted to buy a new front number plate, can I buy it the same way, or do I have to buy a plain blue one and apply the white background myself?? I am no good at applying stickers though, I wanna be able to buy it all ready blue with the white background on it. Is this possible? Maybe straight from Yamaha? Mike

You can get them from Yamaha but they are very expensive. You would be better off getting a blue plate and putting the white background on yourself. You can also get a plain white front plate fron UFO, Acerbis, etc.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. Tell me though, if I get it straight from Yamaha, will it come blue with the white background already attached you think? The price isnt really a concern to me, I just like the stock factory look, and trust me, I am no good at applying graphics or stickers. Mike

I would be surprised if the background sticker came already attached. In my experience, you usually have to buy them separate and apply them yourself.

Woody is correct. They are different part numbers and you would have to apply them yourself.

The number plate background is easy. Peel off about 1/2-1" of the top backing, get it aligned and stick that part on. From the top, slowly pull off the backing as you stick on the rest of the background. Go Slow and from side to side to avoid bubbles. If I can do it so can you!!!

Didn't we have a thread about putting backgrounds on under water in the bathtub?

Question Re: 2003 YZ250 Front Number Plate.

I read somewhere that you can get the white marks out of the plastic with a heatgun. Is this at all possible?? Im talking about the white stress marks you get in the blue plastic, on a YZ like mine. If its true, does it makes it look perfect again, or just makes it look somewhat better?? I cant believe you cant buy that damn front number plate with the white background already attached...: Mike

Yes, the heat gun trick will work...to a certain extent. A propane torch does better but you have to really be careful with it...and I think the next time I try the torch method I'll heat it from the inside of the fender so I won't worry about messing up as much.

Applying decals, especially front number plate backgrounds are very easy. Prepare the surface by extensively cleaning it and be patient with it and it will come out perfect.

Not trying to go off topic with this thread, but I want to know if anyone here has a 2003 YZ250 like mine, who has taken off their perfect-original condition plastic to save it for when they sell the bike? Not trying to turn this into a for sale/wanted thread, but Id be interested in having some extra plastic for my bike. It has to be all original though, and in perfect shape, no peeling stickers or scratched up stuff. Please reply if you have anything. Thanks! Mike

you could always buy a solid whit enumber plate from Acerbis...that is basically what the 05 YZ's have.

you can use soapy water on the plastics to slide the number plate background around while u place it just were u want it.. it is very easy to do.. then u get all the water out with a credit card or something similer then let it dry. the water will not ruin the adhesive on the background at all
