2003 YZ125 mix ratio.

Ok, I am the proud new owner of a 2003 yz125. I have never owned anything 2stroke except for a chainsaw. What exactly should my oil to gas ratio be? Not just a number like 32:1, but 32 ounces per gallon or something like that is the kind of explanation I need. Thats how little I know. Please set my pour self straight guys!( And do it in a way that I can understand )

Any chance you can get hold of the previous owner and find out what ratio they were running?

As for figuring out how many ounces per gallon, I'm not sure.. I do it the lazy way and use one of these...

3.2 ozs of oil into 1 gallon of gas gives you 40:1

4 ozs of oil into 1 gallon of gas gives you 32:1

16 ozs of oil into 5 gallons of gas give2 you a 40:1 ratio.

16 ozs of oil into 4 gallons of gas gives you a 32:1 ratio.

40:1 means 40 parts gas to 1 part oil

32:1 means 32 parts gas to 1 part oil

I run 50-1 ratio in my yz 125. is that bad?
I jest run it because thats what the oil says.
Is 50-1 leaner or richer than say 32-1?

50:1 is richer than 32:1...... richer = longer engine life. I always ran 40:1
I would run 50:1 when it was cold out, but that's really the only time I ever ran 50:1. Colder air = denser air =lean

50:1 is richer in fuel content but lower in lubicity.

There are 128 fluid ounces in a gallon of fluid. Divide the ounce of fuel by the ratio you are trying to obtain. 128/32=4 , 128/40=3.2 got it?

i thought the more oil you put in like 32:1 will make your engine last longer considering more lubrication...? am i wrong

Their are some people that think that 32:1 is a bit excessive and that the new lubricants work so much better than the older caster based, so they run a higher ratio. (Notice I didnt say leaner) But the manufacture recomend 32:1. It is all about your comfort level.
