2000 Yamaha YZ 125 fuel\oil ratio Hi everybody, I just joined allthingsmoto since I need some advice from experts. I had Honda XR100, but now I am upgrading to a Yamaha YZ 125 2000. I had never had a 2 stroke bike and I need to know a few details before I start riding my new bike. The questions I have are simple. I appreciate the help. Questions: What is the ratio for the fuel/oil? What kind of gas should I use? (Regular or Super or something else) Any other advice on or something I should know about two stroke engines?? Thanks Jarl66

Hi Jarl, Welcome to ATM! The recommended mixture for your bike is 32:1 or 4 ounces of oil to a gallon of gas. Definitely use premium fuel. Have fun!!!

Welcome to ATM jarl66. In a 125, because of the high rpm's the engine is running, you should stick to a full synthetic 2 stroke oil at 32:1. For gas, you should be running preimium or at least 91/92 octane. This helps prevent pinging which can cause serious engine problems like trashing your piston, rings, cylinder. Run tire pressure somewhere between 12-14 lbs. The YZ125 is a fantastic bike. I have friends that have both the 2000 and 2003 models and they are great bikes.

I don't want to scare you but in all likelyhood the bike needs a top end. If you can find out from the previous owner when this was last done. Unless you ride really hard plan to do new rings every 6 months and a new piston once a year... It's really the only major maintinence thing to do with a two stroke and it is not really as hard as it sounds.

One other thing is that you should also change the trasmission oil after about every 3 rides. I use Bel ray 80W gear saver and im happy with it. Also you cant really lug a 125 like you could with a 100, so just remember to keep it reved high cause thats where all of the power is. Hope you have a lot of fun on your new pinger.
