Default 1994 YZ125, Do I need a bottom end rebuild?

I just purchased a 94 YZ125 from a local shop. I was told that it ran but leaked antifreeze from the cylinder gasket. I pulled the cylinder and found that it has an after market Hot Rod and I need to know what to check. The rod has a little play when I push side to side but not any up and down.

Also I cannot tell much about the piston, it does have STD stamped in the top so I assume it is a standard bore OEM piston.

Are my rod bearings shot?

Thanks in advance.

There is always some side to side play in crank bearings. slip a feeler guage in between the rod and shim and then check against the minimum tollerance per owners manual. If it exceeds the tollerance you have to get the casings pressed apart and the crank professionally rebuilt by an automotive machine shop. BuT... I have never seen the crank wear out in all my experience.

I am used to rods that used solid bearings and have no play at all. I hope it is usable because if it needs rebuilt I can't afford to fix it.

if it has less than 1/4 inch of travel i wouldnt worry about it.
take your stator cover off and try and move the flywheel up and down.
if there is movement, split the cases and open your wallet.
