1989 yz250 parts? In case this is the wrong section to put this article, I'm new to this site and am a little unfamiliar with it. Moving on, I'm currently rebuilding a 1989 yz250 and am having a difficult time finding any sort of replacement parts (used or new). Ebay's the only place I've checked so far. Any ideas on where else I can go to find any parts for it? I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks for replying to my inquiry. I found plastics, as well as other odds and ends, but am in a bind with a few parts. The bearings/nuts/bolts on the swingarm are shot, and the dealership wants an arm and a leg for em. Also, I've been looking at replacement parts for th engine. Pistons and a "power valve" are tough to find. In case you have any luck, get back to me. I appreciate any help. Also, I'll post pics in the next few days. It's currently stripped down to the frame, sandblasted, and rhino-lined. Plastics are purchased, along with reeds and a few other various items.

Try pivotworks for the swingarm bearings.I'll look around and see if I have any of those bolts kickin' around here( I have two 89 yz250 bikes ). Are you missing the powervalve or are you replacing it because of worn tabs? The powervalve is still available from Yamaha,I wouldn't bother with used ones since they do wear quickly. If you are replacing it due to worn tabs I have a fix for that if you are interested let me know. The linkage usually gets pretty sloppy as well,I will be fixing one of those linkages tonight actually to send to a friend in the US. As far as the piston goes pro-x and wiseco make pistons for these bikes which aren't a lot of money. I've become pretty familiar with these bikes so if you need any help feel free to ask

Thanks a bunch for the replies. I'll check out those websites to get the last of the parts. As for the powervalve, I'll probably get a new one. The engines never been serviced before, so I think it would be a good idea to replace any parts that may need it. Anyways, thanks again.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Here's a link to a site that will give you an idea of what your yamaha dealer will charge you for parts.I've never ordered anything from that site, but it does give you prices which is handy. They use their own part numbers on that site so the part numbers from there won't do you any good, but I'll give you a link to Yamaha's site where you can get actual part numbers but no prices [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

You will find that the powervalve linkage has been discontinued. If you e-mail me I can give you instructions on how to fix it.It's not to difficult if you are mechanically inclined. I do have a brand new powervalve linkage here but I'd prefer to keep it for my bikes

You're the man speedfreak. I did notice the powervalve is discontinued, which sucks. I'll get a better look to see if its decent, but I may need some advice towards fixing it. That is unless you wouldnt mind parting with one of yours...

See if you can find one, only the 89 will fit,1990 they got 5mm shorter. you could buy a 1990-1996 linkage ,cut it,add a piece to the shaft and weld it to make it the correct length, but it's just as easy to fix your old linkage. To fix your linkage you will need a propane torch,a vice, and acsess to either a mig or tig welder, and a grinder. If you can get a hold of these tools let me know and I'll give you the rest of the details. I'm hoarding parts, lol, between one friend and myself I think we have 90% of all the used 89 yz250 parts

So a quick update, in case anyone cares: Installed a new powervalve and complete gasket set. Newer back shock with brand new swingarm bearings. Too many upgrades to list here, but I'll post some pics tonight to give you an idea what it's looking like.
