Default 1978 yamaha it 175, 79 it 250

i dont know if anyone can help but i new to dirt bikes and i have bought both of these bikes in the past two weeks and had the same problem with both of them. The first one which is running and no other problems except for the gas shut off dosent work anymore and it leaks a small amout of gas from the carb when not running. which is an yamaha 78 it 175 and it worked fine yesterday, today i unhooked the clutch cable to put a new handle on and when i hooked it back up the clutch wont disingage. i have adjusted the bolt on the side of it and on the wire itself and still no luck, even if i move the clutch on the motor manually it still will not disingage. i can shift through all the gears fine wiht no problems. and the motor runs with no problems. though i would ask before tearing into it due to it mught be a minor n simpler fix. the other bike i have is a yamaha 79 it 250 and the same thing happened with that. while i was waiting on my new carb to come in due to the one that came with it the post was broken for the floats. but i was changing a broken clutch handle from the owner before me and the clutch did disengage if i manually moved it on the motor but when i unhooked the cable to change the handle it did not work after i changed it. could that be becasue it moved the oppisite way it was supposed to when it was unhooked? it got bumped. but the 78 i have no clue to why it would work the day before and then after i changed **** and unhooked it it dose not work anymore. i read online to put it in gear and move it back and forward but its not stuck. it worked yesterday. and what kind of oil should i run in the trans case? and how much? and should i be able to see oil in the oil fill hle on the side cover? sry but im new to this.

ok i did take the drain plug out last night and there was no oil in the case but about one cup. so not even a 1/4th of a quart. probably need to ***** the damage and rebuild the motor.
