I got some more seat time on my YZ250 yesterday. This was my first "real" ride on the bike. It was VERY windy so there wasn't alot jumping...at least no more than a step up here and there. The bike rips! I am still adjusting to it after riding 2+ years on the 426 "tractor". The bike rails corners like no other....I suck at corners and up until I started getting tired yesterday (which didn't take long due to 7 weeks off) I was corning better than I ever did on the thumper. They say the race is won in the corners so I should be faster. As far as the handling , the bike is very nuetral and goes where you tell it. I have changed the springs front and rear and the suspension feels much better than my old bike ever did. Of course because of the sparse crowd at Nocona I don't think there was a braking bump one all day and no big air so I will no doubt have some more tweaking to do on the clickers. Blitzing the whoops/rhythm section was sweet and the bike skipped right through them...and the dirt was DEEP ! LOL I got squirrely in them once because I made the ultimate mistake...letting off the gas! I saved it but I was all over the place! The dirt at Nocona was deep, not muddy though, and all of us felt like it sucked the power out of our bikes...even the guys on 4-strokes. However I had a blast roosting around the track yesterday. The power comes on smooth but let me tell you....3rd gear is where things move into overdrive! My brother rode the bike and I told him.."get that thing in 3rd as quick as you can and pin it! LOL" Overall the bike is a blast to ride. Something different and very easy to maneuver. The 756's I put on were made for Nocona....that bike was on velcro yesterday! More seat time and gettin back in riding shape and I think I will be faster than 2+ years on my 426. One important thing to point out...I don't feel beat up today even though I should since I am way out of riding shape! Last edited by Satch0922; 01-23-2005 at 11:36 AM.

Glad to see you like! I have one too. Once you get some braking bumps, whoops, stuff like that let me know your thoughts. I found it pretty harsh over the choppy stuff. I had the suspension done, and now it truely is the best bike I have ever owned! Like you say it does rail the corners, and it has excellent power!

just to clarify...this is not an "anti-thumper" post. I loved my 426 and if I am fortunate enough to have another dirt bike after the YZ250, it will obviously be a thumper. However this is the way I look at it....the best 2-smoke ever made (one of the best) is the 05 YZ. I will always be able to say I had it and enjoyed it. So far...I am ENJOYING it. You guys know I love riding and any bike you have...it's good with me. As long as your out riding and not an "internet expert"....your "all good" with me.

Thats great Satch, glad to hear your enjoying the new beast! Theres just nothing like the feel and sound of a 250 (Pinger that is!). The 4 strokes are fine but just dont give the same feeling of adrenallin (sp?) as when a 2 smoke hits the ever elusive POWERBAND!

Satch, nice pics. I really like the write-up. I also can't wait to hear how it flies over jumps. I have been getting stir crazy not being able to ride, so I have been tearing the KTM apart in order to grease, clean, and tighten everything to specs. It is amazing how much stuff you find loose when you have the time to do this work EXTRA carefully. Anyway for the next couple months, I will obviously have to ride vicariously through you guys. I am poised to pick up the '05 bike this next weekend. I have been pretty sold on the '05 CRF450, as it has a 37" seat height, barky (for a fourstroke) power and great handling. Now you guys are making me seriously want to take a second look at either the YZ250, the RM250, or even the CR250. The RM does look sweet, but resale value would probably be terrible. Please keep sending us new info. when you ride.

| D-, the "safe" route is the 05 CRF. I am prohibited to ride red bikes by my religion. Please understand..... HOWEVER......if your lookin for alot of fun...any of the new bikes will fit the bill. The two-smokes with there sound, power and "smell" make an old man like me feel 15 years old again. Old farts (like me)aren't supposed to like 2-smokes. HOWEVER....alot of old farts forget they grew up on 2-smokes or maybe they never had one (we call them newbies). Like I said at the track yesterday " you guys act like motocross was invented 5 years ago! When knucleheads like me showed up with 4 -strokes you were laughing your butts off!! | Rode the 250 again today. I added the Pro Circuit 304 silencer and just as promised...the bike pulls forever on top with the new silencer. I had NO issue with the way it ran today! The bike will pull in 3rd and 4th longer and i don't think I saw 5th all day....talk about a two stroke you can ride in only 3 gears! This bike has impressive power. Just wait till the VForce3 goes in The track was a blast but toward the end of the day the braking bumps were horrendous! This bike skims over them down the straights but the track really punishes you when your braking but the bike was very stable. The forks were a little harsh but I bled the air out of them and they were great.......no forks could withstand the braking bumps although I probably could have backed off the compression a few clicks. It behaves very well in the air (yes I actually got to work on jumping today). The only scarey part is you tend to over jump things really easy on this bike. However it is VERY fun in the air...it responds to the slightest of "body english" . Anyway all I can say is I rode today with a big smile. The best word to describe this bike is FUN! |
