Hey guys Hopefully next spring my parents will have one of our houses sold and enough money to help me afford a new bike. I've been attracted to the YZ 125 for the past 2 years, but more-so this year! I think that with such great technology put into this years model, it would be the best bang for the buck. I just came off a Suzuki DS 80 (WAY too small) and a Suzuki TS 185 dual purpose bike (Too old and not race worthy). I bent the DS 80's footpeg mount and busted a fork seal clearing a 25' table top and I messed up the front end a little on a no hander gone wrong. I'm 15, 5'8" and 175lbs so I'm obviously way too big for my current bikes. Next year I want to try my hand at racing. The new breed of 4 stroke 250s have gotten me scared with their weight, initial price, and repairs prices not to mention the fact that I dont like the way 4 strokes ride. I know I'm ready for a 125 class machine, but my question is which one? I am leaning more to the YZ and the KTM. I am kinda heavy compared to other guys (15 y/o and 175lbs...) and I like big jumps. Will the YZ's aluminum frame hold up as good as a steel frame and do you think I will feel ore at home on a YZ or KTM. Thanks guys!

The YZ125 would be perfect for you.

The YZ is a solid bike, sounds good for you. Make sure you run at LEAST 93 octane, if not higher. The 05 yz is prone to detonation. The KTM is a sick ride too, but a bit more expensive allaround. One sick motor though.

This bike is going to work out VERY well against the F's especially for the lighter 125 riders. it is already like 17lb lighter then a YZ 250F. Take the difference you have in initial price, put it into motor modifications(porting etc) and it will run with those 4 strokes in my opinion. The advantage the 4 strokes have is torque. Torque often translates to accelleration so those 4 strokes can be tough to beat, especially on hardpack. But a 05 YZ 125 with a "built" motor, even for a 175lb rider is going to be a worthy competitor to the 4 strokes. It's cheaper, easier to maintain, parts are cheaper and cheaper to modify. I am one who has not jumped on the 4 stroke wagon and I never will, so my opinion may be biased. Oh, and no worries at all with the new frame....it's good!

Selling one of their homes? Tell them to throw in a truck while they're at it. I too weighted in at about that when I was 15. 180 seems to be the limit I have seen people throw out there. However, some of the owners of the newer 125's say that it's not a problem. The newer bikes are more powerful and lighter. |

Hey, thanks for all the input. I guess the YZ 125 it will be. I will definitly keep it above 92 octane; only the best for my bike! I'm losing weight anyway I can't wait until the house is sold and winter is over. I really want to be able to enter some races next summer. Thaks guys! Wait, one more question Thanks guys

Depends on how it gets set up. If I was you I'd run at least a 50/50 blend of race/pump gas anyway.
