Default '04 YZ250 Running Rich

Hey guys...thought someone might be able to help me out. I am running a little rich on my YZ250 and have some spooge coming out the back of my silencer. I would like to lean the bike out while still mixing the oil at 32:1. I am confused about where to start. The bike is stock except for the fmf TC2 silencer.

My plan of action is to open the carb and make sure the float level is within spec. I believe the stock jetting pilot is 50 and I was thinking of replacing that with a 48. Any ideas on how to lean the bike out or how to links would be appreciated.
Also the bike runs very well and doesn't seem to bog down anywhere.

Thanks

KH

I have an 04 and run the TC2 when trail riding. The TC2 will make it run richer than normal because it adds backpressure. When I run my TC2 I lean my entire system--pilot by one size, the needle by one position and the main by one. Depending on your altitude you may have to play with it a bit to get it right.

I run Amsoil Dominator at 50:1 with 50/50 race gas and pump, live at 4000' and ride mostly at 1500'-4000'. Hope that helps you a bit.

Thanks for the reply Yzernie. That makes sense because when I had the stock muffler on it did not run rich. I am at near sea level, I ride at about 100ft. I will just take small steps and try and lean it out a bit.

Thanks for the reply.

I would start with the pilot, then needle and finally the main. Try it out after each change and see what difference each circuit makes. Don't forget that some of that richness can be eliminated with the air screw but I wouldn't go more than 2.5 turns out.
