Is the service manual from yamaha worth paying 60 dollars for? Does it cover EVERYTHING? I mean every single thing on the bike? I'm looking for a manual and the dealer i talked to recomended the Yamaha one over Clymer or what not. Also, what ratio do i get when i put 4oz oil to every gallon of gas? I'm using Amsoil Synethic and they recomend 50:1 but i don't want to rejet. What does yamaha suggest? Marc

my dad has the same bike you do and he runs 40:1, the manual recomends 32:1, but most mechanics ive tlked to say thats to rich, so we went leaner.

What does 40:1 equal out to in OZ and Gallons? I believe if you add less oil, you get a richer mixture, because more gas is able to be in the carburator per unit of fuel. So technically, less oil = richer. But with synethetic oil, it is safe to go less oil in the gas than recomended right?

A 40:1 ratio equates to 3.2 oz of oil. The way to figure your gas/oil ratio is to divide the ounces of gas in a gallon (128) by however many ounces of oil you mix into it. For example, mixing 4 oz of oil - 128/4 = 32:1 ratio Similarly, you can figure out how many ounces of oil a certain ratio contains by dividing 128 by the ratio. For 50:1 ratio - 128/50 = 2.56 oz. Hope it helps!

$60? Are you talking about the Owner's Service Manual? I'll take better care of mine. Actually, I have both. I usually reach for the Clymer. I think I paid only about $20 but it is much more detailed. The Yamaha one looks more like a coloring book with all it's black and white diagrams. I prefer looking at "real" pictures. Also, the clymer goes into detail about maintence and repairs where the factory manual thinks your bike is going to stay new forevever.

i think there is a difference between the owners manual and a service manual. The service manual from yamaha is what is it, a manual for servicing your bike, i just want to make sure it has everything in it. marc

It says "Owner's Service Manual" on the cover. Buy the Clymer. It's twice as thick.

I'd also get the Clymers, I picked mine up for 25 bucks, and has *colored*, *real*, pictures for everything!
