Default 01 Yz 250 settings...

Well for the first time today i took the YZ out to a track. for those of you that don't know, i bought the bike end of last season. And the suspension is STIFF! Anyone have any suggestions on what settings i should start out at? i'm 150 lbs.

PS: i was going to post in the suspension form but it seems to be DEAD.

First off you need to find out what springs the bike has. Even the stockers would be a little stiff for 150lb rider. Here are some numbers:

Fork Springs:
Type of Riding: Motocross
Rider Weight: 150 lbs
Recommended Spring Rate: 0.406 kg/mm (use closest available)
Stock Fork Spring Rate (measured): .430 kg/mm (stock)

Shock:
Type of Riding: Motocross
Rider Weight: 150 lbs
Recommended Spring Rate: 4.52 kg/mm (use closest available)
Stock Shock Spring Rate (measured): 4.8 kg/mm (stock)

Get the proper springs and change the oil in the forks while your at it. Then it will be fairly easy to dial in the clickers.

Thanks man.
Would you happen to have any recommendations for a rear tire for gravel pit/sand riding?

Thanks

I have the same bike. I have stock suspension and weigh in at 195 lbs + or - a little. I have to tell you that the valving on these bike sucks and it definately needs to be redone otherwise you will be riding around on some of the worst stuff put out in the last 8-10 years. I have my sag set at 1'' static and 3.5 race. Forks are 5 out on compression and 4 out rebound. I find that this is a decent comprimise for performance with stock valving. Good luck!
