Yz250 year Identification
 

Hey guys, I need to know how to make sure that the yz250 I'm looking at is really a 2004. I know that there is usually serial numbers on the engine(they usually start with a 3 digit code that identify the year.) and on the frame. But can some one please help me! If anyone owns one or knows anything please help me out thank you!!!

Besides the three letters that are not allowed in the VIN itself (I, O and Q), the letters U and Z and the digit 0 are not used for the year code. Note that the year code can be the calendar year in which a vehicle is built, or a model or type year allocated by the manufacturer. The year 1980 was encoded by some manufacturers, especially General Motors and Chrysler, as "A" (since the 17-digit VIN wasn't mandatory until 1981, and the "A" or zero was in the manufacturer's pre-1981 placement in the VIN), yet Ford and AMC still used a zero for 1980. Subsequent years increment through the allowed letters, so that "Y" represents the year 2000. 2001 through 2009 are encoded as the digits 1 through 9, and subsequent years are encoded as "A", "B", "C", etc.

So if I understand right, for the yz250 to be a 2004, the 10th digit on the vin of the frame should be 4....Is that right???? And if any one owns one please help me out with some other info... Thanks alot guys for the help!

count over 10 on the vin, it should be a 4 if its not then what ever number is there then thats the yr.

But is all of this vin number identification stuff, the same here in Canada or does it change?

How do you identify Early Air Cooled YZ250?
 

Hi All,

I have an old YZ250 which has been owned since early 80's The frame and engine numbers are all the same.

2X4 - 006326

It is air cooled with Aluminum swing arm and Mono Shock inside the top middle frame..

Looking to restore it as all Plastics are old..
I don't think the seat which is on it is original as I believe the seat was changed by my dad (I think..)

Is there a website which has reproduced old YZ parts?
