Default Building jumps

I've decided to use my front-end loader to build a few practice jumps on the farm. I made one and realized I'd never done it before and it wasn't as easy as I thought to build a really good one. I ended up with a square shaped table top that works ok from two of the directions you can hit it from. Lots of trial and error to figure that one out. The problem is that it's too small and evreytime I try to make it bigger it gets crappy until I wear it back down. I just want to know if there are any "basics" to building jumps. What angles should I shoot for? And what about height vs length?
