Default RMZ 450 really that bad??

I get so tired of reading all the reviews stating that the RMZ is so inferior to all the other bikes. I ride with guys that have 06 KX450F, 06 YZF450, and 08 CRF450's and have never been motored away from in the trails. They all brag about the "Hit" of power their bikes supposidly have over mine but even when doing pulls side by side they never pull away from me, and I weigh 20+ pounds more than everyone of them.

My bike is only a 05 and is more than capable of keeping up with them. Congrats to Suzuki for making a bike that has smooth power and isn't just going go top end power. Something you can use in the real world.

The RMZ is a good bike. I've rode two 2005's and one 2006. Matter of fact, I rode the 06 last week. Very good bike. Who cares what others think, if your happy with it, that's all that matters.

yeah... my friend has an 07 450, the ricky carmichael edition. Of course we tease him and call him Ricky all the time, but I have rode it a few times and I did like it. Good bike

I ride a 2005 RMZ 450. My 450 is as fast or marginally faster than all my friends 450's. I put 160 hrs on my motor before I rebuilt it. It ended up only needing valves. You could still see the hash marks on my cylender from the stock hone. There were a few reports of the 2005 450 having problems with the cylender flaking but previous to this their 250F was full of problems until 2007 resulting in them still getting a bad wrap from some people who have know idea what they are talking about. It is all about proper maintainance.

Here's the thing you need to consider about bike reviews - certain manufacturers advertise with certain magazines. If Suzuki fails to advertise with a mag, they are not as likely to get a good review in that mag as a bike company that advertises well. It's a money thing.

I have never put a lot of faith in the opinions. I will look at their published specs and facts, but their opinions are swayed by $$. Its a fact with a lot of history behind it.

I've ridden an 05 a few times. I liked the handling a lot better than the motor, which seemed more rev happy than the 05 yz450 i was used too, it was a mid-range monster. of course, the Yamaha wouldn't turn like the Suzuki though

I have never riden any of my buddies bikes other than a little spin in the parking lot. Nor have they ever ridden mine other than a parking lot ride, and you can not tell anything about a bikes performance from something like that.

I redid the piston and rings last season and am going to do a valve and seat job on it this July. I don't have any mechanical issues what so ever but just want to get it done before I have a $1500 engine problem. Unfortuantely valves are the one thing that I have to have a professional do $$$.

I know what you mean. I bought an 08 YZ450 and all the mag's said it was so much slower, blah blah. It has a pipe and it pulls hard, wheelies on straights- its a fast bike, any 450 is a monster.
I do have to put springs on it, but I can pass other riders on the track with no problem, and they say the bike does not corner as well either. I love my bike, and it is way better than the mag's say. I see RMZ's flying with fast riders on them, and at my track it is primarily Suzuki, Honda Kawi. Only a few Yami's, but all the guys who have one are really fast. If you were a Top Pro, then you would probably be alot more picky.

I always love seeing the mag reviews with dyno graph showing hp and torque #'s. How they rave about one machines hp advantage over the others at certain points in the rpm's and in reality it is only about 2 hp. Wow that is some big advantage. I realize that gearing and internal gearing has some influence, but come on. If I were JS or CR I might be able to tell but for the other 99.9% of us there really is no difference. More about personal preferance than anything.

Actually I think the pro's could care less what color they ride. They will ride for whoever pays them the most. Besides their is almost nothing about their bikes that is the same as the ones we ride, I have heard that a factory bike has a value upwards of $80,000.
