DRZ issues Welcome to All things Moto first off! Could you give us a little more info on your bike please. Any modifications to the exhaust, cams, carburetor or gearing? How old is the bike? What altitude do you live / ride in? there are a couple of things I can think of that might cause this, first being overall jetting (not just the main or needle clip) and secondly an gummed up carburetor. There are other things but without details I hesitate to venture many specifics. Let us know some more. Bill

elevation is around 2,000-2,454 feet, no mods have been done as of yet, everything is factory, my bike will be a year old in june, it has done this since i purchased it, i am thinking about purchasing a stage 2 kit i found, to maybe remedy the problem

To me, In your first post habbmann it sortive sounds like the choke is stuck on full and that it is recieving too MUCH gas and its bogging...I hope you get your problem fixed- Best of luck to you!

Jet for your altitude Hubbman, I think you are jetted too rich for your altitude. Do a couple of high speed runs with a wide open throttle chop (shut down the throttle) at peak then shut down ( kill the motor and clutch in) and coast in for a plug reading. Let us know the plug color and if it is wet, dry or fouled. If there are no problems with the intake tract like a clogged air filter or something obstructing the inlet then I would do a careful, systematic jetting. Get a clean air filter and a fresh plug to start. Make sure the carburetor is clean inside so that a clogged circuit does not throw things off. Check the action of the choke pliunger to make sure it is not stuck open, like 2strk said above. Work with the main jet only to start, using 1 step increments. Do not get in a hurry and change needle clip and pilot or idle jets at the same time, alter one thing at a time. There are some plug reading guides and jetting spread sheets within the knowledge forums here. Do a search to find these so you have some baseline guides to go by. Bill

Hello, I've had same problem. I did the 3x3 airbox mod, 142.5 main jet, 25 pilot jet, extended fuel screw, and when I snap the throttle the bike bogs terribly. Is this lean/rich problem? When I let off the throttle, and go slower, it picks up some, but I can't snap it in any gear or RPM without a hesitation before the power comes on. I'd appreciate any info.

I assure you your hesitation problem is the exhaust. I have an 07 drz400s, and the stock exhaust they come with absolutely sucks. It's so restrictive it's not even funny. The 3x3 mod in the airbox is a must, and the exhaust is as well if you want your bike to run right. With the stock pipe on mine, it hesitates horribly when the throttle is cracked, then clears and goes right along down the road, same problem you have. It won't even spin the tire over in 4th or 5th when wide open in gravel or dirt. Put the aftermarket straight through pipe on, it's like you put nitrous on it. It instintly gains all throttle response back, and at least 5 horse is gained from this. It'll spin the tire over in any gear and throw a hell of a roost now. The exhaust must be replaced, the airbox is highly suggested too, but not as critical. Good luck!! Email me with anymore questions
