Pics "Memorial" Day

I took the family out this weekend for what will likely be the last desert run 'till fall. On Saturday I couldn't make the big boys ride to Barker Ranch so I took a solo putt to a location I thought fitting for this weekend:

I hope it isn't blasphemy to sit a Honda in the Husky Memorial for a photo. It was a good ride. On the way back I stopped to get my bearings and saw this guy peering at me from a crack in the rocks:

It's a little hard to tell from the pic but this is a Chuckwalla about a foot long. He was not too happy about me poking at him with a stick.

When Sunday came my son got 4th in his class in the USDR Grand Prix held at Dirt Diggers. The pros finished Crawford / Burson / Kudla. No one from our group broke or got hurt so I'd say it was a great outing. For those who have to know - the pic was at check 1, about 100 yards from the intersection of Searles Station Cutoff and Trona Roads, looking southeast.

The Husky had been spruced up a bit since I was last there. I surprises me that it has survived as good as it has, considering how things that just sit out in the desert usually succumb to the weather and vandals.

I guess the closest highway to this area would be the 395, north of the 58 and south of where it meets with the 14. The Husky Memorial is about 20 miles east of the 395 from Randsburg / Johanesburg.

Well Tracker it succumbed some to vandals as such.
If you are interested, at the site below, (Dist 37) you can read about 4 new stone markers and one replaced that the vandals stole some of the brass plates off. Prior to that the Husky got re-done as idiot vandals shot up the Husky and some of the other stuff. The web site tells about the site work day and a bunch of folks were involved.

I think a few bullet holes are OK. They keep the ebay and vandalizing value down.
I have to admit though, I get a true personal pleasure from catching guys that do this kind of thing when I'm working. Putting them in handcuffs and relieving them of the terrible burden and responsibility of gun ownership is a special treat. That area is really lacking coverage from any agency. When our district officer gets back from Afganistan I'll tell him to spend some more time out there.
