I'll tell'm that..
I did run over a big ol' 6' + rattlesnake, thought it was a branch- It was pretty PO'd by the time my buddy got to it..

Here's a pic of his BMW 650X before the ride, it don't look like that now.
Lemme see; smashed headlight, smashed handguards, bent shifter, dented exhaust, scratched plastics, twisted forks etc....BTW, it's his wife's new bike...
I hope he's still in one piece after he got home!

Oh my that will cost him a bundle, i came within a hares breath of buying one of those BM's, thankfully i came to my senses and got the DR instead.

Looks like some good trails! Haha, I was looking at an 07 bmw 328i. Then I realized I'd be paying $350 a month for 5 years on a USED CAR... And THEN I looked at repair bills once that warranty is out. SLAPFACE.

Being a long time DR fella myself, I feel ya. BUT that beemer was one smooth scoot in the woods, I was totally flabbergasted as to how well it performed!
The pics I posted are end of the trail shots, hard to take a pick while traversing lord knows what, but that Beemer HUNG all day long, thru thick & thin!

Bottom line? I'd buy one, and I've owned & totally abused my share of DS bikes..
