I had fun running the C class moto all by my lonesome. Sometimes I could even see them on another part of the track

I do wish that there were more people in the class so it was not "Run 6 laps by yourself and see how fast you can go". Had I known that would be the case I would have saved my energy and just had fun in the TT/ATM class. Not complaining, just saying. I had fun making strange expressions for the flaggers along the back rhythm section

I think people are getting a bit defensive here. My take on the situation is that there just needs to be some order in registration.

When Miles told me that C class was gated with the women I said, "Are you kidding me? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!" I was actually about to go complain about it myself. I'm not sure why they didn't do what they did last year -- big bike had the same moto together. A, B, C, Lites and MX.

With the lack of attendance this year, I'd say next year a change should be in order. I agree with Miles about running around alone for six laps. Granted, I didn't have a rear brake this year, so I basically went out there because I was too stubborn to get a DNF and a DNS, but even if I was in it, there were only a couple other guys in my class. I'm down to do a Kids moto, a chick moto, a guy moto, and a combined moto of ATM/TT. Just renting out the track on Sunday and riding for fun would be fine.

Instead of a memorial race, maybe just a memorial ride day.

Having promoted at least 50 races myself I will tell you some things from first hand experience. No matter how you make a race schedule or how you combine classes or how many people you try to please, there will always be some who complain. There just isn't any possible way to make everyone happy. Promoters do their best to compile a race schedule and combined classes but have to base their decisions on many factors that we as racers do not consider. Granted, some do a better job of scheduling than others but the fact remains that people will complain about anything and everything.

IMHO, this is an event we participate in because we are paying our respects to a fine young man who was taken from this earth. We are honoring his life and his contributions to all of us by his knowledge and skills of working on motorcycles that he was more than willing to share with all of us for free. Also IMHO, to haggle over the small stuff detracts from the purpose of this fantastic event.

It would be my desire that suggestions for next years event be made to the GMB executive staff via e-mail or PM and not in a thread that will end up being argumentative and result with hurt feelings.

EXACTLY!!!!

Why the blow up in this thread at all??? Didn't everyone have a good time???

Get over it and move on for crying out loud.

This event is about WAY more then arguing over who entered what class....give me a break you guys.

Sorry that this is all being taken so seriously. I did take chars reply personally.
Maybe she didn’t mean it toward me, but I took it as anyone who doesn’t race as many classes as they can aren’t contributing enough. Or they don’t “get it”. That also encourages others to race anywhere with any class. I love the GMB and what it stands for. I want to participate in the cause as much as I can if I ride/race or not. I’m sorry I’m so discouraged and scared that I just won’t ride if I feel threatened on the track. My main point is if people are riding in the wrong class and it intimidates others enough to not ride at all, how does that help the fund?
Yes I had a great time! My family had a great time! But something about building up the courage to race makes it more special to me personally. The GMB spirit is what allows me to even consider it! To me it seems nicer if everyone feels like there is a place for them to participate. I can find ways of contributing off the track anyway.

I’m sorry I took it personally. What it boils down to is me (and others) not riding out of fear and maybe I am being selfish for thinking that matters. So I’ll leave it alone now.

Jen, I can say I honestly do not blame you for not wanting to run with the C class guys. I think saying something about it was the right thing to do. So good on you, and I'm glad you had fun.

Charlene's comment was targetted at James saying he gets that it's not just about the racing, it's about giving to a good cause. Jen, it's clear that you get it as well, and her comment was not aimed at you, so no worries.

I'll take credit for "instigating". I was goofing about me being in charge of sign ups..as Ive mentioned. There is enough to be concerned about however, when you mix in girls with B riders. Even though this is for fun, safety is an issue that cant be compromised.

Jen,
I've been riding and racing for 35+ years. Every time I go to the line I have some level of fear. That is a natural emotion that goes through all of us. I bet RC even had some although I'm sure he would never admit it!! It would not be fair for me to compare my riding experience with yours but I just want you to know that no matter how long you have ridden that 'fear' still exists to some degree.

I do agree that if promoters need double gate a race that it is absolutley necessary for them to place like speed classes together. That only makes sense when looking at safety on the track.

Agreed. And I don't think you're at fault for "instigating." It was just a misunderstood joke that I think has been cleared up by now.

James, nobody's hating on you or calling you a sandbagger. The original issue was just the girl's running your class. That's not your fault, and nobody blames you for it. You rode a good race man.

Jen, nobody's mad at your for complaining about being gated with the men. Good for you for saying something about it.

I got it doc, It was a little dig, a poke of fun. At yourself even! So I guess all is well now, or at least I hope so. I wish I could have made the trip down for the first time as I had planned but one of my good friends passed away last week and I did'nt make it. We'll try again next year.

There weren't any girls on the line with me at all that I saw. Am I missing something? I saw Miles and several other dudes, but saw any folks that I recognized as chix.

Oh no, there weren't any by the time all was settled. However, when the first moto list was printed out, C class Motocross was gated with the chick class.

LawDog,

You did GREAT!!! I was flagging on the table top just before the triple step up. I really enjoyed watching you and 288 battle it out. Hopefully the two of you will continue next year!!! I was also amazed how you could run back-to-back motos. I can barely make it 2 laps around that place!

Dude, thanks for flagging. I had a ton of fun. Trust me, I didn't plan on running motos back to back. Maybe that was my penance for my alleged sandbagginess....lol
