To pack or not to pack

This is a discussion on To pack or not to pack within the 4-Stroke Motorcycles - Kawasaki forum, part of the 4-Stroke Motorcycle Forums category; I have a kx250f 07, how often does anyone suggest that the silencer needs repacking???...

Talking To pack or not to pack

I have a kx250f 07, how often does anyone suggest that the silencer needs repacking???

I'm no expert on four strokes, but I thought for the most part, they don't need to be repacked. That is a 2 stroke thing due to oil saturating the packing.

Well...

4 strokes generally have a much higher exhaust temperature. This in turn burns little bits of packing every time you ride. Usually I'd say replace it every 10 hours or so of riding. If you knock on the side of the canister and it sounds hollow, you need to repack.

I had a link to something like that somewhere, I'll edit it in when I find it.
