Default KX450F Break in and service questions

I just bought a new KX450 to replace my old 426.

I've never owned a brand new moto bike before and was looking for some opinions on break in procedure. I know it's controversial, but I'm looking for a short answer. Heat cycles? Run it hard? Take it easy?

I break my road race motors in on a dyno, but that's not really an option with a dirt bike. Just looking for some educated info....

Also how often should I expect to go through the motor. The 426 was bulletproof, check the valves occasionally and beat the hell out of it. But most of my riding buddies run CRFs and they're always doing top ends and the occasional crank. Can I expect the same?
Thanks.

i broke mine in slowly..... half throttle for a while, let it cool... did that for about 10 miles. went to 3/4 and let it cool... another 10 miles. ANd then i started on some slight trails for the rest of the weekend and took it easy. Spent a weekend on my "break in". I have many, many miles on mine and haven't had any motor issues at all. ride it like you stole it.

Thanks.
I suck at motocross and it's way too much bike for me, so I shouldn't be very hard on the motor. Hopefully I'll get a couple seasons out of it, if I keep it that long.

The dyno puts a load on the engine about as soon as you have oil pressure. I would suggest the same for your KX. They have not been on the scene long enough to get a real reading on them longevitywise. So far last year's are like Suzukis for resale. Makes them tempting regardless of not having enough gears.
