Default PW50 SUSPENSION QUESTION

Hi, I just got my kid a PW50 and it is an older model but in really good shape. The only thing is the front suspension is shot. It sags all the way down with only about 1/2" of play. Can I get new springs or service these or do I need to just buy new forks? Thanks in advance.

I have never done a set of these forks, but I am sure they can be serviced and I am certain parts are available.

The left fork is easily disassembled and serviced, but for some reason the lower spring retainer in the right fork is peened in place. I have read where some owners have managed to forcibly get the retainer out and pull the fork apart, but the best way seems to be to drill out the dimples at the bottom of the right slider. The retainer can be peened in place in a different location on the slider, but you will have to seal the holes drilled previously. I am considering using set screws to fill the holes as well as to plug them on my boy's PW. His fork bushings are pretty bad and I want to replace them.

Worst case you can buy a complete set of forks new for around $150. PW Only is a good source.

Yeah I have been reading up on a tt thread also and am thinking of doing that, you wouldnt think it would be that difficult. I mean you can pull the engine in all of about 10 minutes on these things. I only paid $200 for it and didnt want to put too much more into it, but I may have to. It does have the ohlins rear shock though that helps out a ton for the overall suspension. Its just the front sag that I dont like. If you could, et me know how difficult it is if you end up doing it yourself. Thanks, Chris

Will do, but I might have picked a new set up on Flea Bay last night, gotta check when I get home.

Even so, I may tinker with the old ones anyway.
