Moto lt50 pulley starter

hi

i have bought my daughter a second hand suzuki lt50 but it had the pulley missing so i bought all the parts and put it together how i thought it would go
as i had not seen one before but i have seen one now and i did it right
but i seem to be having a problem as the pulley seems slack and hangs out a couple of inches does anyone have any ideas how to tighten the rope
i have checked the websites with the parts diagrams but it dont say anything about putting them together

thanks steve

Welcome to ,The spring needs more pre-load. I wear cotton a pair of gloves in case you lose your grip so you won't get cut.Pull enough slack into the housing to allow the pulley to rotate completely, put the rope into the notch so it will clear the housing and turn the pulley against the pull of the spring. (clockwise I believe working from the back) Keeping the rope in the notch as you wind the pulley. A couple of rotations should be enough. It's harder to explain than it is to do it.
