Default KTM or Cobra?

We are looking into a new bike for our son and there isn't much price difference between the 2007 KTM 50SX Pro Senior and the CX50 SR king.

We don't know anyone who has had either of these bikes. We have read a lot of good things about both.

Anyone have any experience's with either?

What about the LEM as well? Are they more expensive?

Though just for support, I think I'd go with the KTM. However, I think they are all about the same.

Any reason you wouldn't go with used?

Never heard of LEM, although I am sure my husband may have, I will see about that.

Oh we have nothing against used, we just decided we are gonna try and swing it. I have to look around. I guess the main reason we wouldn't get used, is not finding one close by. But used is better for the wallet!!

You know someone who is selling?

I don't. At least not in your area.

To be honest, what I would do is look at dealer support for parts on these little mini's and whoever has the best, I'd go that route so getting parts isn't a problem.

I'd just check the craigs list and some of the other local papers and see what's available.

You'd be surprised what's out there. I watch all the time looking for that killer deal, and have found some good ones.

Well, I know that the Cobra will be able to clear huge jumps...Take the Chuck Sun table top at Washougal. I've watched my friend Tristin Charbenaue (I think that's how it's spelled) hit the huge table top (about 50+ feet) and he cleared it no problem.

Thats impressive! All we know is that 7 out of the top 10 at Loretta Lynn's were Cobras. They sound tuff. I wonder where my closest dealer is, I need to see about that

Mama,
We have a friend that has his son on a Cobra 50 and is very successful in his class. He qualified and ride at Loretta Lynn's in 2005 on the bike. I'd check the dealers in your area for both the Cobra and the KTM bikes and find out which dealer has a better reputation for getting parts. I have only had first hand experience with the KTM through another friend that got his son a KTM to replace an LEM here. They used SRS in Mobile, AL.

Here are the respective web sites:
KTM USA- [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Cobra- [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

LEM has their web site currently under construction

Bill

We have a KTM 50 Pro Jr and a KTM 65. Both have been excellent with no problems whatsoever. I would base your decision on parts availability. If I may be so bold as to recommend another site, if youre not aware of it already...sorry Woody...[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Alot of great info there. If I had to do it all over again, I would go KTM.

Mama:

Call Tom at the holeshot in Humble,Texas
Phone: 281-359-6686

Tell Him that your a friend of Howard's & let him know what your looking for!

I think he has a used Corba & KTM at the shop right now.

He will give the straight scoop on the bikes.

If you decide to get one from him. Char or I can pick it up for you & meet you somewhere to go ride or if you rather take a look at it before buy one, we can hit one of the track around Houston.

I only live 10 minutes from The Holeshot & trust both Tom & his Son Patrick.

These guy's run the shop like the old day's. make the customer happy & he'll come back even if it's out of his way!

WOW, really nice offer, thank you!!

I am assuming thats a business # and I have to wait till business hours to call. Bummer! Its Saturday evening.

Anyway, Do you think he does trades? We have a nice bike we were hoping to use to fund some of this. I know I need to talk to them, I am just excited that there are some used opportunities!

I want to find out how far they are on google. Be back soon to fill you in!

This sounds good! I will call Monday and see what they have to make sure its what were looking for (not over 3 yrs old). Also, our son needs to sit on what ever we buy, I think the bikes we are looking at have a much higher seat hight than what he is used to. Anyway, this is a great option for us, I really appreciate the input!

Humble TX is about 3.5 hours from here, and if there are both bikes, that makes it well worth it. Hoping they will last there the weekend! Actually, maybe we could let Jude skip school Friday, and take a ride out there and go to one of those tracks..Ok, just thinking out loud...

Well see Monday

Mama:

I don't think that The Holeshot is open on Monday's

Also you need to double with Tom to see he has there, as I don't know for sure what size the little KTM was or if it's still there.

If you do come to see him please let me know, as I would love to meet you in person!

Well the good thing about them being closed Monday is if they do have what I am looking for, thats one less day some one else can snatch it up! Don't worry I do plan on calling first thing Tuesday morning.

I will inform everyone of our presence and ETA as so requested as details become available.

Maybe we can hit a track or trail if it all works out.

Was it a guy or a girl?

If it was a guy it was Patrick, Tom's son & a great guy!

Patrick is really good with the little bikes, & know how to keep them running!

Please keep us updated.

It was a girl Name Laura. She was almost helpful LOL

She got me the year and price on the SR in stock, but couldn't find the yr for the JR. I don't know the difference but I was curious. I may start a new thread about that.

Anyway, been looking at that 3 palms place online, and looks like the GP track or the river track are about as tame as they will allow me on.

I assume they wont allow me (KX100) with the peewees right?

I hope we can work a deal with Tom tomorrow!!!

Mama... I'm pretty sure they'll let you ride the peewee track. Heck, I've seen some REALLY big guys out there.

The GP track is really friendly though, nothing that's do or die. The river track is fun too, but it's sandy. It's a great workout though.
