Default Jillian's first ride

Hi all, i've posted in the honda and yamaha section before but this is my first time here. Today was my daughter Jillian's first real ride. she is five and I bought her a 50cc clone (If I had it to do over I would have spent the xtra money and got the Honda) The clone is a single speed and had no governor on it so I had a heck of a time rigging one up. I put a washer in the exhaust pipe to slow it down and restricted the throttle to where it goes real slow.

We went to the track today because they have a wide open grassy area that I wanted her to practice on. When we got there, there had been a real bad accident and they were not letting anyone on it. I took her to a small area in my subdivision and unloaded the bike. There was a Home owner that kept milling around and I could tell he was going to complain. I went and talked to him and he just told me that the sheriffs give everyone a hard time. I explained that we would only be there a few minutes and that it was my daughter's first ride and it was curtailed by some unexpected circumstances. The man told me that he owned 10 acres pretty much right around the block and that wqe could feel free to use it any time. It was too kind.

We went and rode around for a while. Jillian was a bit scared. I tried to adjust her throttle and pulled the throttle cable making the bike gun it. I had just enough sense to grab Jillian as the bike sped away into a nearby lake. I pulled the bike out of the lake and it started right up (it was only in a foot of water. Let me tell you, I only adjust the throttle when she off of it now.

Incredibly Jillian got right back on it and then she followed me around as I road my other daughter's CR80. WE must have done about 100 laps because we have over 60 pictures and took one every time we passed the trailer after a while.

What a great time. Jillian didn't want to leave. We are going back Tuesday.

We just go t back from visiting that man and thanking him again. He was very kind.

The best purchase that I made for this bike was the outrigger style training wheels. They are unbelievable.

I think we now have another MXer in family!!!

Congratulations on Jillian's first ride! It'll be a memory that'll make you smile often over the years, no doubt.

Are you in the Houston area? I heard there was a nasty wreck at 3 palms today.

Assuming you are in this area, let us know next time you're headed to a track. We always enjoying meeting new people and my kids aren't fast by any means. They enjoy having more friends to ride with.

Congratulations on the first ride, I love to hear of another father and daughter, who are making some lasting memories! Nothing quite like the grins of that first experience. Our first ride was in Jan. two years ago, it was about 30 deg. out, and she still had a blast! She still loves to ride, in the summer when I'm in town she will be waiting for me in the driveway when I get home, all geared up, my gear waiting, so we can hit the trails. All the boys in the neighborhood are really jealous!!

It's great reading about those first rides.
Nice job snatching your baby girl when the bike took off.

Very cool. Started my daughter at 5 also. How's the starting/stopping going? I had to tell my girl to kick it down to neutral when she was stopping cause she once got spooked and proceeded to gas it full throttle(throttle was limited, but still...)after coming to a complete stop. Tried to run me over!

Figure eights and starting/stopping. That's what we still work on every time we go. Very cool to have a neighbor willing to let you use his land.

Yeah that was the wreck. it all but closed three palms. My son and I go about every other weekend. I am an ICU Nurse so I have every other weekend off. I only work three days a week so this summer should be very cool.

I live in Conroe about 5 minutes from Three Palms. It takes me longer to load up the trailer than it does to get to the track.

I am the guy with the small trailer with a bunch of bikes crammed on it pulled my my 2007 Black mustang. I call it my Mustruck.

Before everyone starts squawking about her not wearing motocross boots, they are ordered, as is a roost guard, I just haven't gotten them yet.

Good job, Dad!!!

I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you next time we're out there. The Mustruck shouldn't be hard to spot. We're about 10 minutes from 3P's... howdy neighbor

She's got the training wheels. I don't think you'll catch much flak over it here. But of course it is good that you have them ordered. Besides, she'll just think she's that much cooler when she puts them on for the first time.
