This is kind of funny, but serious at the same time. What should I tell Jude about these little stunts he trys while jumping? While I was video taping him, I thought I saw something but the camera I use is really small and I wasn't sure. Anyway, I get home to watch the video and I see every other jump he is taking his foot off the peg. I asked him why and he said because it looks "cool" What would you all tell your child? Would you ignore it? Make him stop? I am not sure how I feel about it, I dont like it, but at the same time is this part of riding motocross? Is it something I have to accept if he does this sport? BTW, we had a blast at the track today, as you will see. enjoy [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Good choice of music It's better that he's doing it on purpose rather than on accident. I wouldn't encourage him to go bigger lol, but I wouldn't worry about that either. Maybe scrounge up some FMX-gone-wrong videos and show him what can happen if he doesn't excercise caution...and even if he does?

I think everyone is different. I can't see either of my kids trying tricks, but if they did, I think I'd sure to let them know what could happen. I suspect it might be something you just have to live with.

Yep, he's a power load all right We have tons of those DVD's he has seen them crash, and Jude has bit it hard too. Thats what I don't understand. I am really surprised to see him trying this. Its funny, but you know something just seems wrong with letting him do it

Man, that's a really tough question. I just asked Daniel what he thought and he said he wouldn't stop them, as long as they didn't look out of control because of it. His logic is that if they crashed because of it, they'll slow themselves down. As the Mommy... I don't think I would either, provided they looked in control. You see alot of the faster riders moving their on and off the pegs to control the bike. I realize that Jude's poking his foot out like that doesn't fall into that category, but shoot, he sure looks comfortable doing it. I know I'm not comfortable taking my feet off the pegs. Like I said, I'm not in your shoes and if it were actually one of my kids doing that, I might very well feel differently. Not much help, huh?

Kids are kids and that's what they do...lol This is probably the reason why my mom would never let my dad get me a dirtbike If he's been hurt before and knows what can happen and still goes out and trys a thing or two....what can ya do? He might be the next Travis Pastrana -- maybe get him a foam pit? But I say if you're going to make him stop that...wouldn't you have to make him stop riding altogether? Riding is dangerous no matter what (I can hear the argument -- then why add to it-- coming on lol) But being that low to the ground and not going "crazy fast" can he do an incredible amount of damage to himself? I think he has an advantage over us taller people on bigger bikes (but that really is a question....I've never been around anyone on a 50) Sorry for the long posts....I've had plenty of sleep since yesterday and way too much soda. And if I'm not helping just e-slap me. |

Part of me feels the same way, let him do what he wants. Its part of the sport, right? That doesn't mean I like it! I certainly DO NOT encourage it. But I think Jody feels differently. He feels Jude needs to only focus on staying on the bike. All body parts! We have actually gone round and round with Jude about this. So he just waits until we haven't mentioned it in a while, and starts doing it again. I just cant believe its worth it to him I am scared to death to even think about removing my feet from the pegs

If ya'll are really uncomfortable with him trying those tricks, then you need to let him know it's just unacceptable at this time. I mean, after all, you are the parents and you get to make the rules. If you've told him not to do it, then I'd make sure he knows the rules and the consequences and enforce them. Take his bike away for a week or something, I bet he'd stop trying tricks then.

Well I am not sure how I feel about it, thats why I posted this I am wondering how other parents would feel. I feel like it goes with the sport, and as long as I dont encourage him it should be ok. But then again that feels really wrong See I'm really confrused!

I think as long as you and Jody agree on whatever it is you decide, you'll be just fine.

I wouldn't stop him either. Trust me, when he looses it once, he'll know to stop. I've had that happen to me many of times ...and yet, I still seem to find my self in that same dalima to this day

Hi just another thought on the tricks.. We have a little 5 yr old on the track who has ridden there since he was 4...I noticed him taking his foot off of the pegs the other day, and he even tries to do a whip..I think he is just really comfortable on the track (he has ridden it about 10,000 times) and is just trying to push himself. I also think he sees the "big boys" (65's) doing it and just wants to fit in.. I think it is okay for him to push himself a little like this, this child is by no means a daredevil, he just wants to add a little to his ride. Hope this helps!!!
