Chances are Jude does that because he sees some of the faster guys out at the track doing it. I'm not saying I'm fast, but I know that my personal style I have VERY wandering feet. I go through numbers really fast because of it unfortunately.

Anyways, he sees the faster guys doing it and says it "looks cool" so that's why he does it. Nobody really has a unique style that's all their own -- They create their style based on bits and pieces of people that they've watched for the most part, with their own twist. Jude is doing just that... he's creating his style based on the style of the faster guys out there, but he's adding his twist. So in my opinion... he's becoming a better rider because of it. He's showing that he's comfortable in the air, and he can control himself as well as his bike. I wouldn't encourage nac-nac's or no footers or anything, but if I were you I'd go ahead an encourage his little flair in the air. Though it's not necessarily dropping lap times, he's getting more comfortable on the bike, picking up new things as he rides, developing his own style, and gaining more confidence.

So in short... I don't think that you should discourage it. It's ultimately making him a better rider.

Acutally, I have changed my mind on this subject. I think its cool my two boys are throwing no handers and no footers, and now the oldest is throwing knack knacks. However, this last weekend racing the Winter Combat series that is held here, my oldest (10 yrs old) is battling for third in the 65cc class and throwing no footers over the jumps, and knack knacks over the finish line and final lap as he has the position and dude in 4th is behind him, he crashes on the finish line jump and ends 8th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he could have had his first podium finish if he would have just kept his darn body on the bike!

He's out there having fun and that's all that counts...

At 6 though, on a 50cc, I definitely wouldn't encourage nac-nacs...

Cool video!

My son recently asked when he could start doing tricks.... I told him to work on the important things first- cornering, bike control, passing, jumping correctly. I told him tricks dont win races.

But then again I wonder if Travis Pastrana's parents told him "no tricks".

Now we just have to work on finding the kill switch when the throttle sticks wide open.

Sam that is some very good advice!

I had a friend come test out some of my jumps last weekend and he was throwing some heal clickers here and there and I was freaking out. I didn't even realize he knew stunts like that. Anyway, when I was telling him how insane I think he is, he made a few points like yours.

He feels moving around on the bike in the air teaches you how to correct problems that may happen in the air unexpectedly. Say if you hit a jump a little off for what ever reason, you are most likely have the skill to correct yourself in the air if you play around in the air during practice.

He feels it teaches you how to control the bike better in the air, and thats part of MX.

I started thinking about how I feel when my feet have accidentally come off the pegs. Its freaking scary!

there are just a few times I can recall, but for whatever reason it has happened. If I did that deliberately once or twice a practice it probably wouldn't be so scary.

But heck, no worries guys, I just ain't got the guts to go there!

As long as Jude keeps those legs low, I don't have an issue. he has this new thing where instead of just kicking it out, he makes it circle front, out, and around then back on the peg.

So freakin funny! He such a hot shot!

I think this quote from Jkt sums it up nicely....

"My son recently asked when he could start doing tricks.... I told him to work on the important things first- cornering, bike control, passing, jumping correctly. I told him tricks dont win races."

If my son were to lose anything because he was goofing around-thered be some scolding going down.

Why? Last I checked the sport was about having fun... why would you scold him for that?

I dont want this topic to get hot...

But I totally agree with that!

I wouldn't want my son to loose either. As long as he is having a good time strutting his stuff, I can be just as proud of him.

In fact that thats a great way for the son to learn a lesson about what is more important to him.

Winning or playing?

Gee, I wonder where your son gets his "too competitive" edge I've heard you speak of

Well maybe in his mind he wasn't there to "win". If he was, I am sure he will never forget what happened with out anyone reminding him.
