Definetely tell him to tone it down until YOU feel he's ready! Its not needed for his progression....Be FIRM!

So what qualifies him to be "ready"?

How did you know Corbin was ready, or is he?

Time riding, jump distance, speed?
Really what do you look at?

He is a good rider, I just think he gets board easily

No my point was that this child is a very tentative rider and he is already pushing himself and trying to do tricks, so I think that you would have to expect that a child who rides as hard as your son does is also going to push himself. Not saying it is right or wrong that is his parents job, just letting you know what I observed on another rider who is younger than even your son.

Mama,

You have the added judgement being a rider! Just use your common sense! If hes doing anything outdside the "box" TAKE CARE OF IT!

Not to be firm, but you have to restrict his ideas! He's way too young for experimenting with FMX. Compliment him on his turning and landing the table skills

Its ok to be firm with me

wowweeee!

I know where you are coming from.

So its age... I figured that, but I wanted to read it.

Not to push any buttons, but I am curious what isnt too young? 18?

A person at the track stopped me today and said I shouldn't allow Jude to try any stunts until he is 18, not even wheelies. Kind of made me feel bad.

When I think about it.... A foot a couple inches above the peg... Haha. Its funny.
I guess there needs to be a limit.

Thanks for your input, I knew there had to be someone who was opposed to it.

well, the other day, i went off a jump, i kinda slid off the take off and my foot just floated off the peg. i tried to keep it planted, but i was just floating off somehow. my right foot was still on the peg, my left wasnt. i imagine it looked somewhat like that, but i wasn;t in control. i landed on one foot. the jump shot you about as high as it did far. maybe 25 foot distance and 20 feet high and you came down hard on the landing. i would not take my off the peg on purpose on that jump.

others, yes, i have a little bit, but i focus more on landing right and getting on the gas right when i land and whats ahead. i used to do it, but not anymore. off that jump, which ins't that big, high or fast, i would even dare to land one handed or no handed(not to give him ideas). that jump is safe and unless something goes drastically wrong, taking your foot off the peg isn't going to make you go down. personally, just let him do it. it's fine. if he is doing it on a jump that you deem unsafe, tell him to not to do it.

I went through the same thing( still am). I just let him know and remind him that it sure will be a drag in a cast and not being able to ride for 6-8 weeks minimum. I just think informed decisions on there part makes them follow it better than a "no don't do that"...that said I tell him not to do that anyway>

My Son was bad about showing off......Until he was leading a race and started showing off and Got Passed and lost the race HA HA ...I Laughed My You know what off!!!
Exsplain to Him that this does not make him faster Actually slower.....try and teach him to try to keep the bike lower to the ground in the air By using body weight to push down and work with him on corners and take his mind off this and it will stop Exsplain speed and races are won and lost in corners My nephew Had the same problem watching older riders and I started Him on working this and He stopped the trying to do crossups and bringing His foot out in the air Streamline equals SPEED ....That takes My Fat A.. out of contention

Well thanks again to all of you who replied. I really appreciate your honesty with me on this subject. As silly as it is, it is still a very serious decision.

I really thought I would here from some certain people on this board about this subject.

Speak now or FOREVER hold your peace!

seems like some of it is the kids (who still have that little dardevil in them like me) who r saying its not that big of a deal. most of the "older folks" like parents and stuff are saying itd be better to tell him not to do it and work on other stuff. idk if that is right but thats kind of what it seems like. im definently one of the kids and im not saying parents dont have that daredevil in them, but ive gotta agree that it would be better to try and take his mind off it by tryin to get him think ahead to the next turn or sumthing instead of getting the foot on the peg even though it is a small jump and nothing much could go wrong as yamah said. just my opinion but its your choice. do what u think is right.

Not to worry, I am constantly reminding Jude where to be focused, where he is doing well, and what he should try and concentrate on next. He just has a mind of his own and I think for now I will let him explore a TINY bit with the foot thing.

If we put a stop to it, I know he will just wait for an opportunity when our back is turned for a sec to try it anyway. Then IMO he wouldn't be paying as much attention to what he is doing on the track.

We decided we are just going to monitor it on the down low. He will not receive praise or acknowledgments about it.

Now if he trys one of MotoMans, no handers, that a totally different story!!
