Default Boots for 10 yr old

Hello everyone,

Well, now that I have the XMas present bought for my son (Suzuki DS80). I am looking at gear for him.

I found a great Bell Helmet for him and bought him some goggles. However, one of my coworkers said that before he gets on the bike, that boots are a must!

I understand why, but he is just starting out riding and shelling out another $130 + for a pair of boots just can't happen right now.

Is buying (and trying to find) a used pair of boots Ok for a starting rider?

He is just going to be riding on a well broken in trail for now until we can get him to a track once he is comfortable.

Any Insights or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

He should definitely have boots, and IMO used ones would be fine. You might try ebay or even craigslist, to find a pair. It might not hurt to post a thread here in the wanted section as well.

What size does he wear? I may have a pair that'll fit him, just not sure what sizes we've got in the garage at the moment.

Boots are a must absolutely but buying used boots is perfect. They seem to grow out of boots so fast. Buy a size larger than normal shoes if ebaying that way if to large put on an extra pair of socks and you have them longer. If they run small you are fine as well.

I agree with the necessity of wearing boots and also going the used-route. I have a couple pair in great condition. What Size?

Wow!

I didn't expect responses so fast!

Thanks for the kind offers, he is in a size 6 (mens). If anyone has any, just let me know what you need for them.

I will look for some used size sevens for him, I believe thats what dhighlan said.

Time to look @ Ebay. Glad I am being so productive @ work...

Yes, we're all productive at work.

I don't think the boots we have are going to be big enough, but I'll double check. Dhigh has a great idea in buying the next size up. Just get some thick wool socks (also work great for wicking moisture away) and he'll be good to go.

You may be in luck...I have some size 7 Alpine Stars-tech 4. I bought them used a couple of months ago and they're in excellent condition, but still too big for my son. Don't remember how much I paid. I'll find out~same price to you + shipping.

I appreciate you taking a look!

I guess I feel guilty (nahh) when I spend too much time surfing and making sure I don't get busted.

I'd hate having to sell the bike for food

Just a quick bump.

There are some Berik Boots out on Ebay for 59.99 (BIN) + ship.

Are these boots OK for a beginning rider?

Here's the link for the auction.

I thought you were looking for 7's, but if you think he can fit into some 6's, Corbin is done with his Fox's. Not in excellent shape and missing an ankle strap, but they're yours for free...I'll even pay shipping (since Corbin moved into the 7's I mentioned earlier in the thread )

I have been eyeballing them as well if even for a back up pair at that price and they are a good boot.

Thanks for the Replies, I am glad to know these will work for him.

Prag, (Dave)

I am looking for 7's, Kyle tried on a pair of six's and was walking around with his feet curled up and doing the constipation walk saying "Yeah Dad, these would fit OK... even thought they hurt just a little! I really appreciate your kind offer, OT's been good and I think I can make this work!

I will be posting photos of the XMas present tonight, I finally figured out how to upload pictures.
