I really like the idea of having the kids contribute to the bike fund. The deal with our kids is that we bought the first bike, the kwad for Anna and the 50 for John. When we moved down here, Anna wanted a bike but didn't want to sell her kwad. She probably would have preferred to be your kid at that point, because we made her pay for the whole bike. That way I knew she wanted to ride and it did give her a sense of ownership too. Of course, we paid for the kx and just used the money from the ttr90 towards that.

I hope your boys keep an interest in riding, I know it's something we sure enjoy doing as a family. If not, I'm sure there are plenty of other things to enjoy with them... maybe photography?

How old are you? I don't see a problem with that at all.

I wasn't trying to come across as harsh. Just trying to say that I think its important for kids to help out with things like dirtbikes. I think when they're owners or part owners that they're more likely to take care of the bike and help with maintaining it.

The YZ is a handfull. I rode a 01 couple years ago, and it was hard to keep the front tire on the ground.

IF my boys had a way of making more money, I would certainly go that route. I know I bought my entire bikes when I was young, but I also mowed lawns professionally since I was about 9, so money wasn't too hard to come by. Now my boys on the other hand ... they seem to have a silver spoon of sorts, so it's not quite so easy for them to come by $$, and we don't pay too well as far as allowance goes. If we could get them to all eat less we could pay them more, but food for some reason is NOT something they can skimp on...

I actually perfer the Honda 2 stroke the least of any.. Honda quit developing 2 strokes back in the 80's. Yami has the most patents but they seem to lack handling.. and seem to break sooner..

My choice is the Suzuki RM85. The Kawi is a great bike also. The RM has great power and handles very well.. Yo can decide on the big wheel or small wheel kit.. I have a 05 RM85 big wheel and a spare set of smaller wheels that my boy never uses. The larger wheels allow for better control in the whoops and all around riding/jumping etc...

Even the old RM's and Kx's work very well.. Tons of them on KSL.com..

Kelsey

I've actually been looking on KSL for about a month -- I do see some KX's and RM's but the prices are not in line with what my son wants to spend -- Almost all of the RM's are over $2000 still, and he's not willing to pay that much. Oh and most of the KX's look funny, so he's not wanting one of those.

I personally prefer them RM myself, but unless we find a good deal, it's not going to happen.

Especially when we found a 2003 YZ85 for $1000 here locally. He's not going to race, so the YZ would be fine -- and yes, the CR is not even on the list.

Thanks for your input though, it is appreciated.

It's sold now, and we never looked at it (my son doesn't seem to care enough to save the $$).

But here is another in very similar condition.

KX100 is out of the question. Faster isn't what I want.

Something that is easy to ride. He's not going to race, so we just want better suspension with a good motor that won't kill him if he gets a little crazy.
