I just recently bought my Daughter a'96 KTM 50. She loves it, and we went riding the last couple weekends. 2 times now while trail riding, her bike dies as if out of gas. Both times we were riding down a straight road, and about 1/4 mile into it, it poops out. After a few kicks, it starts back up. I'm going to pull and clean the carb this weekend, and was curious if I should look for anything in particular. Thanks in advance.

It sounds go me like the float in the bottom of the carb may be out of spec and/or there is something in the gas tank or if it has an inline filter, that maybe clogging the fuel from entering the fuel/float bowl. So I would make sure when you open the fuel petcock that you have a good steady flow of fuel flowing from it, and if you have an inline filter, make sure it's flowing as well (I guess if you leave the hose attached you can check both if so equiped). Then of course do as you were going to do with the carb. Make sure there isn't any sand/dirt in any of the oriphases (sp?) that would cause the fuel not to flow. Also make sure the air filter is clean. Oh, and one last thing. Welcome to

Woody nailed it, having owned a KTM 50 I can tell you that those carbs are SUPER sensitive to ANY kind of debris in them, blow it out well and see if that helps. If it doesn't post back up, I have about 8 million links for that bike.

dado, I recently went through something that sounds awfully similar to your problem with my son's 95 KTM 50. I cleaned the carb several times, checked, checked and rechecked everything. I was very frustrated. After yet another examination, I noticed a small tear in the top gasket of the carb. It was enough to make a huge difference. Once I replaced the gasket, it ran like a top and still does. 2-strokes are funny with the smallest air leak...learned my lesson! Good luck!

Thank you guys. My 7 year old Daughter can't wait to help me tear into it. The plug looks good on it, so her and I will start at the tank and work our way down. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

If you find some little black spec's in the carb, it's the fuel line. I've hear that the new gas formulation is hard on the stock KTM fuel lines.
