and for some reason the manufacturers don't get as much flack from making motorcycles loud and motocross worthy.

Smaller percentage of buyers for the motocross bikes vs the quads, that is my thought on their reasoning. Not that I agree, but I bet that is there train of thought....

Great pics guys.

Woody - that color combo is great. I think you chose the right one. Man, that quad looks good. It's good to hear from someone who actually owns one now. That pipe does look restrictive. I don't think you could fit a good size cuban cigar in the opening

Congrats!

Last thing, keep both hands on the bars at all times (j/k )

Congrats Woody, I sat on one of these down here @ the Yami shop and just druelled for a couple minutes. The price tag is a lil steep for me, so I am gonna shoot for the first KFX400 I can find in Sept. and just pipe it and jet it for starters. Keep that thing clean man cuz you got one smokin' machince!

My buddy has a Z400 with a pipe and jetted and it is as fast as the YFZ, the only thing lacking really is the suspension, so I think the KFX is a great machine. I have one of those too and they certainly should not be discounted.

Putting a cuban cigar in there would be a close fit and as far as the hands on the bars at all times, it's an accident, I can't help it.

Just a little follow up. My bike doesn't look quite that clean any more. As far as comparison between the Z (piped and jetted) and the YFZ with the air box lid removed and baffle removed, they are not even close any more. The YFZ is quite bit faster than it. I am still amazed every time I ride this machine.

That was some awesome pics. I seen you had the white and red yfz i was wondering if you have had any problems keeping it clean. and does the white look like it has faded at all?

Welcome to the boards. I have owned blue Raptors and that's the reason I didn't go with blue because they show stress marks too easy. The white does get dirty, especially where my pants and boots touch on the sides of the tanks, but in my experience it's easier to clean the white than to make the stress marks in the blue disappear. How do you like yours?

Well I dont have a YFZ yet. I dont know if i want to wait till next year to get one. cause this being the first year they came out there could be some problems they have to work out who knows. have you had any problems with yours? Ive rode my friends Raptor and that was cool but it didnt handle that well and it seemed top heavy. how does the yfz handle and can you compare it to the raptor in any way?

In my opinion, the raptor and yfz really aren't comparable. The are very different machines.

the raptor is fun in the dunes, but not as good as the YFZ, on the track, the YZF is king too. On the trials, I think the Raptor would be better, though the rear end (the rear sprocket and chain) is really low and tends to drag on the ground with only the smallest of rocks etc.

If I was choosing and money wasn't an issue, the YFZ would be my choice every day of the week.

I know what you mean about first year machines. I got stung with the Raptor, but I don't think there are any real issues with the YFZ. I have had mine 6 months and the only problem I've had is that my upper chain roller was destroyed after about 3 months, but I got a roller relocator and put a new roller on and of course that fixed it. I've heard of people having starter problems, but I've never met anyone personally that has had the problem and the problem has slowly disappeared from the boards. I don't think it's a bad idea to wait, but I don't know that it will make that big of a difference. I don't think you'll see much change in the two years.
As far as comparison to the Raptor, there really is none. I can spank the Raptor in the dunes and on track with no problem. The only place I can't beat it is in reverse. They are two completely different animals.

I hope Yamaha got all the bugs out of the quad. I was reading in my Dirt Wheels Mag and it said that Yamaha has been working on this quad since 2000 so they should have gotten all the problems out. Do you know when Yamaha releases their next year quads so if I do decide to hold off till next year I will know how long I have to wait?

Generally they release the new year models around October, possibly September.

Woody_YFZ, I'm going to look at some yfz's this weekend. So I don't think I am going to wait. So I just wanted to know if you knew anyone besides yourself that has a yfz and if he had any problems with it? I dont know if you race yours but I wont be using it like that, I stick to agressive trail riding. What makes the YFZ stand out from any other quads that I should consider? I might seem paranoid but I dont want to get stuck with a quad that doesn't run right. Does the white and red color show stress marks like the blue? If anyone else has anything to add about facts why or why not I should get a yfz feel free to post too. Thanks

No, the white does not show stress marks at all, that's why I went with that color. Yes, I know two other people who have YFZ's and neither have had problems and they ride theirs a lot harder than I do. I do race mine a little and that's why I bought that bike was because it is definitely the best mx quad out for the money. I don't foresee any problems with them, but another quad worthy of looking at is the Z(KFX)400. I think that is a great trail machine and quite a bit cheaper.
