Default XR650R or different Honda for cross country?

     

I recently bought this XR650R, planning to do half of the Continental Divide later this year. I was a little star struck when I found this thing, but several weeks of riding to work and back I’m beginning to wonder if I should find something with an electric start, and forget this 650R fantasy. So far, I only have the purchase price and some time cleaning up bad wiring invested. I really like theCRF450X street legal idea. What do you guys think?

Once you have a bike with E-start, you will never want another one without it... I think the BRP would be a better fit than the CRF450X for what you are planning personally. Maybe see if someone would be willing to trade for an XR650L?

I had looked at a couple 650Ls... I really liked the features of the R so much better. Except that electric start! It's not too bad if you do the process right when it's cold, and when it's warm it's 1 kick every time. But I can imagine doing that 20+ times a day for 12 days might get annoying. It's really a shame nobody makes an e-start conversion for the R anymore.
