Default What is a good starter bike for my 10 yr old?

My son is just starting out riding dirt bikes. He is 10 yrs old and I want something that will be fun for trail, going to the track (for fun not racing) except against Woody393's son on occasion. I want something that will last awhile before it needs upgraded. Also the budget is in the $500.00-$800.00 range. Any ideas?

yes check out [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] look under items for sale. There is 2001 xr 80 for sale for 600 bucks, that should keep him smiling for years. He might also beat Woody also.

Beating me shouldn't be a problem

I'm sure not seeing much on the local scene that's for sure.

Have you taken him over the steadman's to sit on some bike just to see what height would be good for him yet? If not we should do that soon.

i dont know how tall he is, but my ladyfriend is about 5'2" and she rides an xr200. she can sit on it with both feet touching the ground, and its a great little bike to learn on, especially out here in az. its kind of heavy but its got a low seat height, its easy to start, great power, and its really quiet. the only thing it needs are wraparound hand guards so she stops breaking levers.

she wanted a bike that she woouldnt outgrow too fast, and a 200 was the perfect choice for her, but again im not too sure how tall your son is.
she got her bike for $900 and its a '99 in mint condition.

Over the weekend we picked up an 2000 XR100 in great shape for a great deal. Fits perfect, runs great, and will bring tons of smiles for years to come.

If your #1 son wants a bike, there seem to be a lot of the TT125's in great shape for not tons of ca$h. At the usual used bike site. Not many in the way of KX 85 or 100's.

He won't be getting a TTR. That's a good all around bike, but not the bike he wants or the one he'll get.... if he gets anything at all.

Does he ever ride T Dub's 65? Can he handle a KX 100?

No, he's ridden his cousins YZ85 though, and had a good time on it.

Hey Woody 393
Tonight your #1 son said he wants an RM 80 because he is an RC fan. And for some reason he likes his dad's bike to.

I'm not even sure he wants a bike, but if we can find a good deal on a yellow one, we'll get him one.

So now my son Ty has his XR 100, Where do you guys usually get accessories. We are wanting to get him a helmet, and gloves. Do you buy from the local shops or online or where?

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] is a good start. Any purchase over $100 is free shipping.

However, you might be able to find a lot of the same stuff on ebay for much cheaper, if you know how to supersede parts and what not... Careful, it can get addicting

You could also do the same on amazon, which gets frustrating because it doesn't have a very good search engine.

Your local dealer might not be a bad idea to check for prices and sizes. But I find them to be way out of my price range compared to the internet. You could also search internet for sizing charts for items.

Webbikeworld.com has really good reviews on bike parts/accesories. Unfortunately I have a good feeling that they only review street bike things.. Sorry if its no help.

Good luck

My favorite is one of these three.

Motorsports of Utah, Online Store
Dirt Bike, ATV and Motorcycle Parts & Gear | MotoSport
ATV Parts, ATV Tires, Dirt Bike Parts & Motocross Gear | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC

I do buy from our local shop on occasion, but if I can I buy online first.
