Hey. I am planning on getting a bike very soon.. I have been interested in dirt bikes for a while now and cant wait to learn to ride. The only problem is I dont really know what bike to get. I'm 16, female, 5'7'', and about 135.. I want to stick to 2 strokes..I need something that isnt super heavy since i am learning and will probably wreck quite a few times..me and my dad thought about a KX100 but we need more advice..please help..

I would say look at a KX100, see if you fit. You can also look at the Honda CRF150R which although its a 4 stroke, it would fit your needs. They are nice little bikes! If not, you can always look at an 85 of pretty much any brand.

I don't know how tall a Kx 100 is, iam not sure if they are not much bigger than an 85, if you can touch the ground on a 125 i'd go for one of them.

If you are set on 2 smokes, you are definitely in the 80/85 class. I'm a Yamaha guy through and through (for dirt bikes at least) so I would suggest the YZ 80/85. The KX 100 is a good choice too though, it will give you more growing room power wise than an 80/85 probably will. I would stay away from the 125's for now, you don't want to scare yourself. What kind of riding do you plan on doing? If you want to pound the trails you might find the learning curve too steep on a small bore 2 stroke. If you're riding MX then you're probably on the right path.

I'd also recommend the CRF150F. My sister-in-law started on that bike and it fit her size well and gives her room to grow as she advances in skill.

I remember the day I was 135. I'm about your height and a tad heavier and I think a 125 would suit you well. I think a kx100 would also work, but a 125 may be easier to find and less expensive. I'm not sure what part of the country you're in, but you can find late 90's and early 2000 model 125's around here for just over $1000. Where are you planning to ride? Mostly trails? Track?

I sat on a KX100 and the front of my feet touch the ground but not like my whole foot.. I want to eventually get into MX.. I LOVE IT.

A KX 100 sounds like the best option to me. A 100 will keep up with a 125 on the trails, and they're nice light bikes. Have you ridden other bikes very much?

If your that close to touching the ground I would personally go with the KX100, would last you longer since we all know about outgrowing bikes so fast. If your uncomfortable with it being a little to high you could shave the seat or lower the suspension a tad, both being pretty easy and in-exspensive. |

As for weight between the KX85 and KX100 there is only 6.6 pounds differance which isn't really to bad and the KX100 is 1.3 inch taller at seat height. So basically there is minimal differances between the two so it does come down to how much power you would want, which is your own preferance (i learned to ride on a '96 CR250R basically just made the crashes hurt more because of speed) so if your already kinda intimidated or worried I would go with the 85, But in the end it's really none of our choices it's your own we can only give you experiance's and advise. Either choice you make i'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. Forgot to add the bike specs which I looked up, both taken from '07 models: '07 KX100 Seat height: 34.3 in. Dry weight: 149.9 lbs '07 KX85 Dry weight: 65.0 kg (143.3 pounds) Seat height: 841 mm (33.1 inches) If adjustable, lowest setting. Last edited by Fireman87; 04-07-2008 at 09:47 AM. | Yep, it just comes down to how aggressive of a rider you'll be. I remember speculating what bike would be best for me on my first bike, but you really have to just ride the bikes in question and see what you like best. |

Thanks! My dads friend has two 85s and we are gonna see what he wants for them cause he is a Honda guy so if they are CR's the seat height is gonna be like an inch shorter.. and if that doesnt work out I am gonna save up alot for a KX100...

Sounds like a plan! You can get a pretty decent KX100 for around $1000 around here, but I haven't looked at 85's at all.

kx 100 is the way to go everybody says the 150 but those 150s are crap all beginers i have known have grow out of 150s in like a week and with the one hundred you dont have too much power but you wont grow out of it fast itl take you a while to out grow a pinger im on a cr250 and i dont want to go any bigger because of the weight but i get close to getting a cr500 and i realized that the cr 250 is perfect for me
