Default New to dirt bike riding

hey everyone, new member here. I have always loved bikes and everything about being on two wheels. I am finally in a position to get myself a dirt bike, but am having trouble figuring out the right bike to get. I love the kawasaki look but am open to suggestions. I currently weigh 340lb, working on that number, and am around 5'9. What would be a good bike to cruise backwoods trails? Not looking to race or jump.

Not sure what your budget is or exactly what types of trails you want to ride, but Kawasaki just released the KX250XC and KX450XC for next year and they will probably be available soon. If you're looking for something a bit more mellow they have a good selection in the KLX line.

Thanks. Budget is around 5,000 and the trails aren't to crazy, really through the woods around my house. Is a 250 to small for my size ya think?

If you went with a 250 4 stroke, you might find yourself wanting more power as your skills improve. I have a 450 and for the woods around here it's extremely overkill, but I was using it as a snowbike as well and needed the extra power for that.
In the budget range you listed you should be able to find a decent older 250 or 450 that would work well for you - the CRF's and WR's need a little tweaking to get the most out of them, a KTM would be a solid choice as well (says the guy who refuses to own a KTM haha). A 300 2 stroke would probably suit you well also.
