I am going to get a new/used bike and I have three bikes picked out. Please give me your opinions on each one from experience with them or from what you have heard, not the price, but I am leaning toward the 05' cuz of price. 2005 YZ250/$2500- excellent condition, has renthal bars, factory connection suspension, full procircuit system, new D.I.D. chain and sprockets, and applied triple clamps. 2006 YZ250/$4000- kept up on maintenance, stock bike, great ride very fast. 2006 KX250/$3000- Excellent condition, sharp looking, runs excellent. Bike needs nothing and wil not need anything for quite a while. About 20 hours time on the bike- about 2 hours on brand new Pro Action suspension. The description is from the seller. Thanks for the opinions.

well just because 2005 and 2006 have 1500 bucks difference I would go with 2005 yz250.

The 05' YZ250 doesn't have the aluminum frame does it?

No I don't think it does. For that reason I would go with the Alum frame '06. Much better handling and the '06 has far superior suspension than the '05.

Does the 06' KX250 have much of a different feel than the 05' YZ250. Because I just got off of a 00' YZ250 and was used to the yamaha feel. If there is a different feel, does it just take time to get used to the KX from a YZ250 or vise versa.

I'm pretty sure '05 is the first year of the aluminum framed Yamaha two strokes.

Quote from DirtRider.com YZ125 What's Hot! • All-new aluminum frame. • All-new motor. • All-new swingarm. • Overall weight is 11 pounds lighter. • New Kayaba suspension. • Renthal handlebar. What's Not! • Other than the new aluminum frame, the bike has looked the same for years. • The bodywork still fatigues in just a few rides. YZ250 What's Hot! • Losing 5 pounds in a year is a successful diet, even if your 125 sibling loses 10! • The motor makes power and adds a strong dose of ridability without giving up excitement. • The fork is finally in the right dimension in setup and progression. • Two-strokes are a long way from dead—this YZ proves it! What's Not! • When washing the bike, you may get wet thanks to the forged cutouts on the frame tubes. • The top of the fork tubes cup dirt and debris, so be aware of the bleed venting. • The blue plastic seems to white out as it did in previous years. The chassis—made from aluminum and 5 pounds lighter than last year—accounts for the huge weight drop. Right off the bat, you notice the machine is lighter; it has a distinctly less-top-heavy feel than before. In fact, the bike is not top-heavy at all anymore. Now the 250 Yamie is easy to throw into turns, especially tight ones. |

Alright here is the deal the 2005 YZ250 is sold. The 2006 YZ250 was ran too hard for the money he wants, and he hasn't done anything to it. So what is left is the KX250, and a 2005 SX 250 for $2100. Goods and bads about the KTM and Kawasaki please.

Honestly, just take your time. Don't rush into buying a bike, especially a MX bike. Look around. I have a 02 CR250, which has the aluminum frame you're looking for. It being a little older, allows for some cheaper bikes. Be patient.

I would go with what ever is in better shape. If they are both mint, then go with the KTM,much more motor, hydraulic clutch, renthal fattys, easy access air filter, easily adjustable PV,turns real well, good year for KTM over all,Really cheap for a KTM.I would go for that especially because it is $900 bucks chaper, that could be a whole new exhaust sytem and some nice graphics and seat cover,Or a set of really sick wheels.

Shop some more. Keep looking for an 05 or up YZ. You can't go wrong with one of them. Don't get sucked into the hype about the difference in the 05 and later forks. The 05 forks are very easy to be modified to perform just as well as the newer ones.

I found a 2004 KX250 today. $1500- new pro circuit exaust system, bike was laid over once and bent handlebars. Haven't been ridden since. New $90 D.I.D. chain, new brakes, new rear Renthal sprocket. He rode it 3 times over the summer and the people he bought it from used it for trail riding and when he picked it up he said it had cobwebs on it, so they didn't ride it much. I think I'm going to look at it tomorrow. I can fix some bent handlebars. He said it may need a rear tire in the future. It has all stock plastics on it.
