Default First Post on ATM, 250f or 450f PLEASE help!

I'm new to ATM and I ride a 08 crf250r and I'm going to be getting a new bike soon, but I don't know what bike to get a 250 or a 450. I weigh 195 and I'm 6'-6'1". The reason I am having second thoughts about upgrading to a 450 is some guys say you ware out faster on the 450 and I love how I can throw the 250 around and can ride it hard. But what are your opinions?

Any Info. Helps
Thanks

Your going to get a lot of mixed reviews on this one. If I could do it over again, I would have went with the 250. The 450's are over kill, but it's damn nice to have that power on tap when you need it. Truth is, not many people can use all the 450 power and honestly, how many people do you know that can hang a 250 out there for everything it's worth? not many would be the answer again. Now I'm sure will have some come on and say " I use all of my 250's power" Yea, you do use all of it on a drag strip, I'm talking about ridin that thing for every ounce of power it has on a track or a trail.

if u want more power but want to stick with a 250 go with a yz250 or cr250. either of these can easily hang with a 450. just my 2 cents

I've converted over from a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke and won't go back, not because there not fun and fast but because after, what is it 2010 there no longer being manufactured, and I'm use to a 4 thumper now. But I did ride a 125 for 2 years and it really helped me learn to ride faster and smoother. The more I think about it I think I'm going to get another 250, cause there so much fun. But please keep the opinions coming really helps in my decision.

Thanks for the responses!

I think Mr. Freak is right on with his advise. I've been 2 stroke my whole life and alot bigger than 250s but you cannot beat the good times you will get on a pinger on the pipe!!! I have been thinking about a CRf 450R lately and even rode one last week,I love the lowdown instant throttle response, but it's not for me yet. Good luck and let us know what you go with!......Jerry

no but im just saying that likely a 2 stroke 250 can keep up with a 450 4 stroke otherwise they wouldnt race them in the same class right?

yes and no. Do you watch any mx,sx? You don't see anyone on a 2stroke. There all thumpers. I like the 250 smoker, but everytime I jump on one, then get back on my 450, well, it's like night and day. You really should ride one, your missing out on a lot of grins.

it wont be til next year that i get anywhere near a dirtbike im sticking with my blaster til next summer then putting it up for sale and going on a hunt for a 2001 yz250. and i cant really watch any mx or sx because i dont have the channels. and the likely reason none of them are on a 2 stroke is because their sponsors dont want them on one. and it also depends on what bike your used to for some people who ride a 2 stroke 250 for a couple years or so then jump on a 450 they might not like the feel of it because they are used to the 250. dang do i type a lot sometimes

blasterdude14- in MT they let the 250 two strokes ride in the 125 class with 250 four strokes and 125 because the few people who still race 250 two strokes were throwing a fit cause they got wooped every race, and the guys can rip on the 2 smoker but the 450 just has more power and would leave them. Just my 2 cents

But does any body know what 250 four strokes are going to be fuel injected besides honda?

Sponcers don't dictate what the rider rides, but if they did, you can bet they want them on something that will win and that would be a thumper, not a smoker. The new age thumpers, are really that good. Like I said, ride one.

who says 2 strokes arent coming back for 2010? KTM and yamaha still have them coming. yamaha might not make them much longer, but ktm will.
i have heard and read that 2 strokes are much more popular in europe now, and ktm's 250xc and 300xc are amazing bikes i guess, you can ride them low like a four stroke and rev out like a 2 stroke. it probably helps that you can adjust the powervalves to fit your riding style though.

i dont see why they wouldnt be, i mean there are still 2 stroke snowmobiles. and those have 2 and three cylinder engines.

blasterdude, everyone has an opinnion and theres is nothing wrong with stating yours. Please don't think I am trying to beat on you, cause I am not. And the yz250 is a good bike. Just trying to educate you a little on the 4 stroke world. It's bigger than you think bro.

Ninja, the 4 strokes are taking over in snowmobiles as well. Honda did away with them, the rest will soon follow. DO I like it? NO, I love smokers, and I think they are great, just calling it like I see it. It is coming, weather we like it or not.

direct injection might bring them back it has a chance if the major companies catch on like ktm did. and i know that the 4 stroke world is bigger but if i can i will be 2 stroke for life its just what i am.i dont know what it is but i love the sound and power a 2 stroke has.

i know that can am has the direct injected 2 strokes, so maybe other companies(ktm) will copy it sometime and bring it to bikes.

hopefully, but probably not
