That XR is amazingly clean looking for the year. I'd be curious if the frame has been recently painted. I haven't a clue on the price. But the XR250 is a great bike. It'll be a bit heavier than say a yz125, but properly maintained, it will run for a long time. It would be great on the trails, smooth power and soft suspension. You could hit some small jumps too, probably even some bigger ones...But I don't know that you'd want to be doing that all the time.

Contrary to what the little piggy says, that bike is not a piece of ****. It's just a matter of what you're looking for and what will suit your needs.

The XR's tend to hold their value fairly well. I would guess it's got something to do with them not changing much year to year. Well, that and being considered somewhat bulletproof.

I found similar year model xr's for about the same price as that one is listed for. I'm sure you could find something newer (yz,kx,rm,etc..) for the same price or even cheaper. Like I said though, it all depends on what you're looking to use it for.

Of course, this is all just my opinion.

Was that really necessary? People want a bike that appeals to them and for you to comment like that is uncalled for. If you don't have anything nice to say...............

Like your 125 that you can't make run right.
If you had the XR, you would be riding dude. Think about it.

xr's are bullet proof and do hold there value. Cash is king and money talks. It's probably going to need new rubber & possibly a carb cleaning- especially if it's been sitting for awhile. Tires get hard and don't grip well, gas varnishes and clogs jets. You could get something newer that has disc brakes but for an introductory bike you can't go wrong.

The bike looks super clean for the year, and IMO the price is fair (there is almost always wiggle room). Give it a good look over and check for the usual stuff- loose spokes, trashed bearings in the wheels, steering stem and suspension, smashed frame tubes under the motor, broken or stripped bolts, bent or broken parts, etc. The motor in that bike should be near bullet proof and last forever with clean air filters and good oil in it. For a trail bike that will likely never let you down you can't beat an XR. It's no CRF 250R by any means, but a dang fine bike.

Thanks To All!

I went and bought the bike. It is a 1986, but has MANY new parts from the 90's.....that's why it kind of looks like a 1996 model.

Here's what the guy did:

1. New rear tire
2. New Sprockets and chain
3. Carb cleaned
4. Engine re-built (seals, rings, valves, etc...).

He was asking $1,150. and let it go for $1,000 Flat.

Again, thanks to all, conversation like this really helps me learn more about off road bikes, how to ride, what to look for, etc..

Thanks.

Final word: Glad to move off the TTR 125 and get on a XR 250!

Ya did good Jimmy.
It had a long manufacturing run. They made that bike from 81 to 05.
Rode one of those in the Colorado 500 a bunch of years ago. Sure handeled good in the rocks.
If you have problems, speak up.
