I think not, in fact it's probably less of a race bike than the 85, over here if you want a 110 you put a big bore kit on a 85

No, it's not a lot bigger. 1.2" to be exact. But he can't touch the ground on a 125, especially not a yz125 (39"+ seat height).

We could go with some lowering kits -- though I don't want to.

The bottom line is if we can get a decent deal on an 85 or 100, in a year we can sell it. Chances are VERY good we won't lose a dime vs what we paid. So we're out nothing.

It's a 250f motor but I'm not sure of the frame they used. I believe it's the 150r frame...maybe the 85....

That is the Service Honda JR 250. If I remember correctly, I think they were available before honda had developed the CRF150R so I believe it is based on the CR85 frame.
Here is the link to the info on the Service Honda site

No we didn't lower the 100. (the 250f we lowered) I just added a flywheel weight cause someone said I should....It did help me adjust to the two-stroke punch. But as far as height and weight it was great...about 2 months of riding it I felt like it was too small for the track. Not enough suspension for me and my size.
when I stood on the pegs while riding i had to squeeze the seat with my shins rather than my knees. i have old footage if you wannt to see.

Just comfort mainly. I love the way my full size bike fits! But I was just so intimidated by its size for so long.

Probably more info than you needed... but you know me

Right the 250F.

We are going riding in the morning, and he's going to try out a YZ85, and a couple 250F's so we'll see how it all goes.

Right on woody! Let us know what he thinks.

Of topic...Here's an [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] AJ at service honda.
Also, they wedged the 250f motor in a 150 frame.

Well, the riding went well. He had a lot of fun, and crashed 3 times, but that didn't seem to stop him.

The 250F's are way too big for him. He didn't ride either, since he couldn't hold the bikes up without falling over. He could if he put on leg down, but he couldn't then get back on the bike, and forget about starting it if he needed to. I guess his legs aren't very long, because my nephew didn't have a problem with the 250F's at all, though he's 14 now and is at least 3" taller and seems to have longer legs.

The YZ85 was good though. He was on his tip toes on both sides and he could start it just fine, and he rode it just fine -- though we need to spend some time learning how to use a clutch, but that's normal.

So at this point, the YZ85 seems to be weapon of choice, though I think if we can find a good deal on a clean KX85 or KX100 we could go that route too.

Thanks for all the help.

I was in a similar situation. I had a kx65 but was way to big for it. I sold it , and was looking for a new bike. I could barley touch 1 foot on a 125 but i felt an 85 was going to put me in the same situation as i was in with my kx65. I knew i could ride a 125 but i wasnt sure if i wanted to deal with falling and being kinda uncomfortable. So i went with a 03' rm 100. (its a kx100 with yellow plastics) and i love it. i got it for 1200 and its really clean and fast. He is a little shorter than me but i would deffinatley go with the 85 or 100, until he gets more comfortable.

Well, he's not getting anything for the time being. Seems his earning money has gone well, but he's now decided to buy "other" things with the $$, so oh well. His choice, which I guess is good since I don't want to force them to ride. I want them to want it.
