My brother needs a bike, and we are planning on getting one this week/next. We (my family) run both motocross and hare scrambles. From what i have seen, most tracks will put the Kx 100 in the "bigger" bike race ( the full size one). My father really does not want my brother running with the older kids, so it seems that rules the 100 out. Is this true in other tracks that you guys have been to? In motocross i believe it runs in the supermini class that the 150R can run in; correct? What about an 85 big wheel? Is it track dependant? We are trying to get two years out of the bike, and were really looking at the CR 85 expert. However, none of the three dealerships i went to had one. We have gotten the same price quote on both a KX 85 and CR 85. We dont really like suzuki, and the yami is not my brothers favoirte. What classes are each bike allowed in? Hare scrambles take priority, but we do do an occasional moto, so i really wouldnt want to put in at a disadvantage there. So it seems my question would be, what would be better for harescrambles and motocross; a 85 or an 85 big wheel and is it really just track dependant. Thanks all.

The 100s do not have a race class, so if you are racing, I would stay away from them I do not know the size of your brother, but I have found that my sons go faster on the smaller bikes doing any kind of woods racing. I would go with the standard 85. They have better resale. Suzuki has a good bike and a great contingency program for the young riders. If you are buying new and your brother places in the top three on a number of races, Suzuki may be a good option.

Thank you for the info. We ended up with a CR 85 expert (big wheel). We were originally planning on just sticking with the small wheel, but the big wheel just fit him better. Im not sure about his exact hieght, but he is tippy toed on the big wheel. I really think that i over thought all of this. I believe he will be fine no matter what we put him on. Thanks for the help though.

The great thing abour buying a big wheel is you can pick up a set of standard wheels and run it either way according to the race organization you are wanting to join. We ran a RM85L and bought a set of standard wheels on Ebay and ran both classes with a simple wheel and chain swap! Best of both worlds. I am a Honda rider but in terms of small bikes the RM is hard to beat!

My friend has a 100, and he has to be with the adults because of that, so 100s are out. I would suggest a cr85 expert, or a normal 85 honda or Yamaha. I've seen alot of 85s on craigslist.com, and no I won't give u a url. Good luck looking 4 a bike!
