What are you currently riding? Is there any possibility you could ride the different bikes before you make a decision? You are right at the age where you will get stronger quickly so a 125 might be disappointing in a year or two. Just a thought.

yea i agree, i started on a xr100 when i was 10 then went to a 250f(aka 125 fourstroke) at 14, it took a little bit to get used to but i got the hang of it and i loved 4strokes ever since. Iv never rode a 2stroke so i wouldnt know.

Get a newer 05+ 250 two stoke dude! I have a 05 YZ 250 and love it! My brother just got a brand spanking new 06 CR 250r for 5150 out the door and it feels just as good as my YZ!

it depends on what u wanna do, if u want to get into the racing, then i believe get a four stroke. if u just wanna have fun with ur friends then a 2 stroke 250 is a fine choice. i have just gone from a 99 cr 250 to an 08 yz250f, im now a converted four stroker, the 250f is an absolute blast to ride and is suitable for just about anybody, doing anything. just my 2 cents

i also got the 05 yamaha yz250 2 stroke and a 2005 KTM 450sx. i would go with the 2 stroke for the reasons of easier to rebuild and less money for a great bike. i paid 3800 for yz250 with a couple short rides on it and it could pass for new.it had 20 minutes of riding time on it and i picked it up locally at ebay.guy even threw in extra stuff.it was a great deal.i heard talk of letting 250cc 2 strokes race against 250 4 strokes in amatuer level racing.dont know what happened to that idea.but im here to read about moto and get caught up on all the info!

But I don't know if the 250 2-stroke is too much power and the 250 4-stroke is probably too expensive

I have had both, 4s & 2s I would strongly recommend the 250 2 stroke all the way to the finish line. Learn to ride it, and you will love it. Want some good info on the diffrence? visit (twostrokemilitia.com) We are not selling anything! just providing real needed information. Good luck in whatever you choose 2 or 4, just get out and ride!

Get a 250 2 stroke. You can get them cheap thanks to the 4 stroke fad, and maintainence is also more within a 14-15 yr old's budget. $150 piston/gasket kit every couple of years vs a $1000 4 stroke rebuild (or more if it breaks something) in the same time frame. Your a big kid and will grow into a 250 2T real quick and it'll make a better stepping stone to a 450 in a few years. My .02

probably a 125 the 250 2 would probably be too much power i mean have you ridden a two stroke yet? i would suggest riding the 250, the 125, and a 250f and decide which one you like best.

personally, im a 2 stroke fan, but, you really need to be careful man, its different, those 4 strokes dont have the a** end like the 2's. but mainly, you need to choose you bike with your riding style, as in, tracks, trails, dunes, w/e the case may be, but regardless, w/e you choose, get out an ride!! good luck man.

Definitely depends on what you are looking for, I would recommend trying out both before you buy because both bikes have very different feels.
