You alone can determine if the bike is right for you, or not. I usually base value of these kinds of things on what they are selling for on ebay. To me, that is the only "real world" value and I think you can do a lot better for a 2002.

Show him 15 one hundred dollar bills and say "thats all you can come up with", and that your research says that is more in line with what '02's are going for anyway and see what he says. You might just take it home. Make him throw in the stand and any extra parts as well.

Just my opinion.. good luck.

$1500 for an 02' 250?

I think they're worth more than that.
Especially seeing how clean that one is.

Like I said, I base these things on what they are going for on ebay and $2400 for an '02 is crazy in my opinion. I mean, incase you haven’t noticed, its almost '08 now.

Its not my money though, just my opinion. That is all, and I could do better!

$2400 is a bit high, but I do have to say that bike looks very clean, especially for one that is used for off-roading. I would look into what type/weight rider the suspension is set up for. If it similar to what you need that can save you alot of money in the long run.

I second that!
The bike looks really clean! If it's a local sale and he won't take anything lower it's still below Blue Book and what ever you would save from getting one on Ebay you would probably pay for in gas or shipping. If it suits your riding style buy it and you can hit the trails over the long weekend.

I'd say that's pretty close with the aftermarket parts it comes with. I have a 2001, and ride mostly trails. I wish mine was set up that well.

See if he will come down a bit. If not, that's not too bad of a deal. You'd spend more than that even buying a bike for $1500 and adding all the extras.

I wasn’t saying to necessarily buy an eBay bike. While I have done this with great results, more often I will simply use eBay as a bargaining chip. Other factors come into play as well though. A lot depends on whether the guy really wants to get rid of the bike, or not. And if he does, than how long is he willing to sit on it trying to get Blue Book value. Nobody sells anything for Blue Book, except for new. Also, aftermarket parts don’t really add that much to overall resale value. They may help the bike sell but more often than not, they shouldn’t really bring the price up that much. In this case, the aftermarket upgrades are fairly minimal and the bike is SIX years old. You also have to take into consideration the age of the seller and buyer into account. If the seller younger, than he’s just dreaming and looking for someone gullible enough to buy the first bike they cant stop thinking about and at whatever price. If the seller is older, than he’s just starting high knowing he’s going to take a heck of a loss anyway and simply trying to get as much as he can. Another thing is that you have probably already shown great excitement at the idea of purchasing THIS bike and that may be a problem. A buyer has to act like they don’t care if they get this one or the other down the street. And with dirt bikes, there is always another down the street. Now, last but not least, psychologically, one-hundred dollar bills work wonders, especially for the younger seller.

Now I think this KX looks like a great bike. But, its SIX years old and he is asking two much money for it. If you offer him $2000 than he is probably going to accept it and you both can feel good about the deal. But if you start even lower, than you may find that his bottom dollar is even less than that.

I purchased my ‘02 YZ250 -mint- in ‘05 with full Race Tech suspension, and a few other goodies for $1700. The bike was only three years old at the time! Baron just purchased an ‘05 YZ250 for $3000. Now why would you spend $2000-$2400 for a SIX year old green machine? I wouldn’t..

Take them with a grain of salt but these are just my thoughts and perhaps your money is easier to come by than mine is. I don’t know. But good luck to you. If you really want it, than go for it Dude! It is a nice bike and I am sure you would be very happy.
