Default 1987 Suzuki lt250R or 1998 Suzuki RM 250?

Right now i have a 98 rm 250 thats bored 80 over. It needs a stator and i believe it needs new piston and rings and the timing needs set. It would take a long time to start and when it would start and you ride it the bike would reverse because of the timing being off. After it reversed out me it doesnt have good compression anymore and i cant get it to start at all. I posted on craigslist and someone offered me to trade for an 87 lt250R he said that it needs new piston and rings. My question is which one would be the better one to have? And which one would be worth the most if i fixed it up and sold it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

IMHO, I'd at least drive out and check out the LT250R. Even though it's old, those old quads are still highly sought after and hard to find, just like Honda 250R's.
If all it needs is a top end, it should still run, only the power will be flat, and there will be excessive vibration.. if that's all it is, and the wheel bearings, axle bearings, shock bearings (front and rear), all seem to be ok, it's worth a shot IMO, as long as it's in good shape.

BTW, have you looked into a dollar value that it would take to fix your RM?

Where I am, generally quads are more expensive than bikes. If you are going to trade, make sure that the piston rings are the only problem, because quads can quickly become more expensive to fix than bikes. All that being said, I have tried both, and have more fun on a motorcycle than a four wheeler.
