04 CR125 vs 97 YZ125

If both are mint, both under $1300.00

The CR I hear has a peaky (maybe weak) engine but great handling...... I should add that the 04 engine was a one year deal only, with the powervalves the way they were.

The YZ won bike of the year, and was best in class in almost all catagories, but is older year wise. Not condition, it is prestine.

Not to add more but was also looking at a 02 RM125

Im buying a smaller 2t for some indoor fun and to keep a few hours off the 450.

I'd take the CR. IMHO the bike-of-the-year thing was more hype than substance. I had a '97 YZ 125 and really wasn't that impressed. Motor was ok, but nothing ground breaking, the handling was very average and the suspension rather poor (particularly the shock). The CR will have much better suspension and a bit better handling. Motor will be very close.

I had a '97 YZ 125 and it was really comfortable to ride. Get what ever bike is in better condition.

I would say the '04 CR. With the CR you get a bike that is 7 years newer than the yamaha. Plus the YZ would have the heavier steel frame and the CR you get an aluminum frame. Just look around, see what you can find!
