Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers! I'm out of the hospital, and in a rehab center now. Currently an impatient inpatient.... I miss being home with my family, but I have a lot of work to do first. I can't move my legs yet, but I am feeling progress everyday. I have regained control of my functions, and not a minute too soon lemme teel 'ya! I went 8 days without a BM and the doc threatened me with some type of 'propellant' if I didn't make something happen! I can't imagine what propellant means, but I pictured myself flying around, redecorating the room like an untied balloon!
Ah ha ha.

As for the crash, I was play riding in the sand at Bulcher. There was a big dune, and one side was carved up by a dozer or something. It was almost a vertical wall. I attempted to hit it sideways, and jump across to the top. I had in 2nd gear... I didn't want to come up short so I braAAPP! and I just went too high and too far. I hit an invert at the lip and it bucked me off, and I SAILED over the bars like the Human Cannonball without a net. I smacked my head, and slammed against the ground, L-1 & L-2 fracture in my back and broke rib #6. I'm glad EMT's ride motorcycles... guys just like Big Howard out there... on the spot and took charge like real heroes. I don't know who they were but THankS Guys!! Long story short- heli to the hosp, 8 screws in the spine & 26 stitches later, I'm rolling in a stroller.

Of course, they can't really tell me when or even IF I will walk again.
But I say YES I WILL walk again, and yes I will ride again too! Call me crazy, but it's not the bikes fault. I just need to ride a little smarter, and think a little longer before I try another Enslow.

Thanks again for all the prayers everyone. I really believe GOD has HIS hands on me. This is just a test of my faith. I was given another chance to live right after that bout with Guillian Barre syndrome, and I went back on a lot of promises I made then. I just got another wake-up call my friends, I won't go back on my promises again.

Oh yeah.....I just moved my big toe

Hey BTW thanks Char for the card! I was laying there in ICU and the nurse brought it in....I had no idea my mom had posted about my accident, and in a morphine haze was trying to figure out how..huh..who..char? shizzle?
Very nice of you GUrl! And nice talking to you Jedi, and oh yeah... my mom DOES ride, she has an '86 Suzuki LT 230 quad. And she's no fire road tourist, she can work it through the rough and rocky! Grandma's got skills.

It's great you moved your big toe!
The first one is always the hardest, the other nine should come along in time.
Get well soon. Thoughts and prayers!

Unhappy

Mam,
You certainly belong here as you are a part of our family because Johnny is a member. My heart is in my throat right now after reading the report of his back injury. Please let him know Bill and Monica are praying for his complete and speedy recovery. Tell him some spiced pecans are coming his way when he gets out of the hospital.

Johnny has stuck by me in some hard times with my health and I think of him as a great person and friend. Let him know all of ATM is praying and be here for him if he needs anything at all (you too.) I look at the Marine corps medal he gave me when I was recovering from surgery every day and think about him all the time. Now my thoughts and prayers will be increased for Johnny.

Regards,
Bill and Monica Barnard

You guys keep remembering John. I talked to him this evening and he is still making progress. Has a long way to go but he is moving his left foot with ease. The right leg is a little slower in responding but progress is being made. He actually took FOUR STEPS today with knee braces on.
He is still the same positive guy I have always known and he ended the conversation with, "We'll ride again brother". And I am looking forward to it.
He actually gets to go home this weekend. Will need to be back with all the people helping him on Sunday afternoon but he is looking forward to going home for a weekend. Can't say that I blame him.

Hey peeps! I came home for good April 24th! I have complete control of my left leg and it is doing all the work as far as standing and stepping. I am walking with a walker, and walking behind my wheelchair pretty well. I can walk un-assisted, but very slowly and always with the risk of my right leg buckling. I have a bit of paralysis remaining, but it is coming back..just slowly. It feels good to be home let me tell ya. Cant wait to get walking/jogging/RIDING again! I feel lucky to be as far along as I am for only being 4 months since the crash. Everybody take care, ride safe and smart, and hopefully I will be rubbing elbows with my ATM budz someday soon!
Thanks again for the prayers, love y'all!!

-----John

What uuuup! I am walking with a cane! Don't use that walker or wheelchair at all anymore! Went to Freestone and did a good bit of walking there. Felt real nice to go up to the RiderDown booth and thank some of the people there. They are awesome (thanks to you too Howard) people there and have helped me more than I ever could have imagined! Just popping in to say howdy, I'll be back online for good soon.. and make y'all tired of me again.. hanging around here all day ... photoshopping everybody ! heh heh
