Default Valve lash adjustment, Im skeered

Ok guys I really need to do a valve lash adjustment since I have about 10 hours on my bike now. Ive never done it but Id like to learn. Ive read posts on KTMtalk about how to adjust and they have multiple different methods.

The 1/6th method seems to be easier than using a feeler guage, but cant that be used at TDC instead of on half a valve opening?

You are scared for no reason on adjusting the valves,, On the ktm talk site Travis D 37 has a short video it will help you alot..

once you do it then it will be easier from there on..

I grew up in Cedar Rapids, How is the riding there?

ktm 4 strokes video for valve adjustments and other maintanance is also at you tube.it's real easy to do the job.you will still want to check the valve with a feeler guage no matter what method you chose to use to adjust the valve.valve lash is not valve clearance and wikipedia most likely will explain valve lash. just dont watch the other stuff on there or you will be even more skeered.

Does KTM use a shim and bucket like the YZF? I just bought an '07 250SXF and I want to look at the valves and make sure they're in spec. I've worked on YZF's many times, but never looked in a KTM.

if you got a 2stroke you wouldent have to worry about valves and you would know how a real bike handles

There is a great how to on you tube! Other wise Norris Racing can do them for you.

you can do it easily. I would never pay to have them done unless you don't have the tools and have no desire to get them (that's my excuse to buy tools) or you have more money than sense -- in which case have at it.

Whoa its been along time since I've posted on here. I ended up doing them myself it was very easy, no shims or anything just a jam nut and screw.

Oh that's not bad at all then. The jam nut/screw is quite a bit easier than shimming.
